Okay my cousin invited lots of people to the wedding but you had to have a ticket to get into the reception. My only thing with that is, if someone is good enough to come to your wedding why are they not good enough to celebrate at the reception. But that is just an idea.

We had the " _ seats are reserved in your honor" in with the invites. Then on our website I added "due to very limited space only those invited may attend. If you would like to bring a guest contact us and we will let you know if space becomes available." We didn't have any problems.

Just add a line that reads: "No guests, please." and be sure to address directly to recipients, don't include "& guest" on the envelopes.
