How do married couples formally put their names on checks?

Lacey, on June 24, 2013 at 4:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I couldn't find any info on how to put our names on our new joint checking account?

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith?

Jane & John Smith?

John & Jane Smith?

Obviously not our names but you get the idea - how do we put our names on checks??

Don't put AND or & or you both will need to sign the check.

    John H. Smith or

    Jane B. Smith

Whenever we combine accounts, it'll likely just have my name because I highly doubt my husband will ever write a check.

Hell, I'm paying with checks when I can just to get rid of them.

Mr. and Mrs. don't go on checks. They are courtesy titles, not part of your legal name. As others have said, it is:

    Jane B. Smith

    John H. Smith

(or the other way round--it doesn't matter so long as both names are there).

Our plan is to just have

    John A. Smith

    Jane M. Smith

    Address

That's the way my parents' checks look, and it seems to work just fine Smiley smile But @Nancy is right, anywhere you can, use OR not AND because otherwise you both have to do whatever it is (sign a check, call the insurance people, etc...)

Our current checkbook just has FHs name because we haven't reordered yet. I sign them no problem.
