I have a bit longer than shoulder length hair and it was always mid back length prior to a few years ago. I've always wanted long curls on my wedding day but don't know how the heck I will grow it out before my June 2012 wedding date. I was told to get 1/2 inch trims every 3 months but my hair...

I have a bit longer than shoulder length hair and it was always mid back length prior to a few years ago. I've always wanted long curls on my wedding day but don't know how the heck I will grow it out before my June 2012 wedding date. I was told to get 1/2 inch trims every 3 months but my hair doesn't grow very fast. I am trying to avoid extentions if at all possible but I don't want to put anything on/in my hair if it will weaken it. I do not die, blow dry, or put products in my hair now so it is very healthy. Please help with any ideas, it will be much appreciated!! Thanks

Actually a lot of people are given prenatal vitamins who aren't pregnant and who aren't TTC. A lot of health departments give girls on birth control vitamins (instead of a multivitamin they are given prenatals).

The iron thing, about prenatal vitamins, is not always true. Most woman are iron deficient as it is, so it's actually very helpful. If you have healthy iron levels normally, though, then yes, talk to your doctor.

Prenatal vitamins and tons of water drinking does it. You can also buy vitamins that is meant for hair and nail growth. Both have done the job for me. My own hairstylist said that's it! You need to start coming in every 6 weeks or I will track you and chop you myself! Because in the 3ish? months since I last saw her my hair REALLY grew but amazingly didn't have as horrible split ends as I thought! Fruits and veggies also help too!

Prenatal vitamins. Absolutely all the way.

Mine say on the back of them 'take one if not pregnant, and two if pregnant,' so they are healthy for someone who isn't pregnant.

And did my hair ever grow fast! It worked for me.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and I am hoping in 14 months I will be atleast closer to my goal. I don't have to best diet but do take many daily vitamins so if they have a high dose in the prenatals I will discontinue the seperate supplements. I have never read or used this forum before but it was quite helpful!!

Havent' read any of the other suggestions, but mine is to use a great shampoo, along with a moisturizing conditioner. I heard a tip on the Tyra Banks show that said massaging your hair for 3 or more minutes, while shampooing helps to stimulate hair follicles and promote growth.

Well the first pre-natal vitamins (http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=TL-1384) that I came across on vitamin shoppe's website vs. their multi-vitamin (http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?fromCatId=cat10044&id=VS-2752). The multi vitamin actually has MORE iron than the pre-natal. The pre-natal has double the biotin (which you can not overdose on) and that is actually what helps your hair, skin and nails. Also, doctors recommend women take these if there are trying to conceive so obviously you can take them when your not pregnant. You can also by a biotin supplement separately to take with your multi vitamin if the fact that the bottle says "pre-natal" is freaking you out.

I do everything Hayley said, also. I never blow dry my hair, it's so bad on it. I shower at night and let it air dry.

So...I had to post on this thread b/c this is actually what I am studying this semester, and seeing how I have spent 300 hrs(yes that's what it feels like.lol.) studying and doing hw on the anatomy of the scalp and hair. I am so glad I have a chance to put it to use. There is nothing you can go externally to make your hair grow faster. Biotin is a great vitamin for hair growth. As well as a healthy diet and exercise. Now with that being said, your hair can also be harmed by external sources causing it to break. This is caused by over processing, extensive heat, not using the right kind of products. There are 2 types of conditioners on the market...#1 is a rebuilder and #2 is a moisturizer. There is also deep cond and instant. Anything that says you can leave on your hair for less than 5 min really doesn't penetrate the cortex of your hair, therefore really only makes it more manageable. so....eat good, take vitamins, and take good care of your hair. sry that was a really long post but

I like to think that all the work I am doing is counting for something.lol. I hope it helps a little. And trimming your hair does keep it healthier but it really has nothing to do with the rate it grows.

Hey Kristen, do they say is true that hair grows faster in the summer time? I mean I swear mine does, I think we all do, but what's that about? The warmth?? (I'm puzzled) Smiley smile

Yep it is trueSmiley smile As well as your nails. Due to the fact that your skin and hair is more dry in the winter than in the summer. Your hair also grows slower the older you get. In most cases.....you know there is always an exception to every rule.

Ok so questions about these posts....

It was said if you are going to blow dry use high so if I'm going to straighten my hair should I use the high setting or the low one. The highest seems to burn the crap out of my hands and ears haha.

and also I feel like I "shed" way to much, I had super thik hair up until my sophmore yr in hs not its very thin and fine. would prenatals work for that too?

Not to be funny at all but have you considered adding hair for the desired length? Clip ins are great and can be removed when you're done.

    Want to grow hair fast?

A good mixture for longer hair would be

-Jojoba oil 1/2 cup or more for longer hair

    -Essential Peppermint oil 15-20 drops

    -Essential Rosemary oil 10-15 drops

    -Essential Lavender oil 5-10 drops

you simply mix these together and place in a microwave able bowl, and place in the microwave for 15-20 seconds., be sure to heat until Luke warm and not hot

That's actually not true about the prenatal vitamins, they are fine to take anytime. I wanted to add that before my wedding, I used Hair Formula 37 vitamins http://www.hairformula37.com and they really helped grow my hair long. I thought it was silly but they have a lot of reviews on their site from people who are trying to grow out their hair for a wedding. Anyway, good luck!
