How do I assign seats to one long table for 150 people?!?

stanthewoman2014, on September 29, 2013 at 7:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I want one very long table with my hubby and I at the head as a banquet style dinner. Only issue is idk how to show people where they sit since I'm not having individual tables. Any ideas?

Place cards at the seat. You might want to have numbers for areas of the table that would be on their escort cards (so they know where to find their place card)

Numbered sections down the table on high stands?

So if someone approaches the table from the head end, and their escort card says 3 left - they're on the left hand side (to save them circling a very long table) and in section 3 (so they know roughly how far along they are)

Assign the bridal party and maybe your immediate family, but then don't assign seating and have people sit along the table where they wish?

I would really advise doing a U shape instead of one long table with that many people. I had originally wanted one long table and I only had 27 guests and my planner advised against it. The U shape (really a rectangle with the top left off) was awesome because we were in the center then everyone was flanked to either side so they could easily talk and see everything that was going on.

My suggestion either way would just be placecards on each plate and then maybe a large map on the inside that shows where everyone is.

I agree with the "U-Shaped" idea Smiley smile And I also think it would be easier to assign seats for the bridal party & immediate family, but let the rest of the guest choose where they would like to sit.

I'm curious as to where and how you're going to set up a table that is approximately 300 feet or 100 yards long!!! LoL Are you having your wedding on a football field??

I think the "U" shape is a cute alternative if you find you can't create a table that long.

Otherwise, if you do go with one long table, I would create seating cards like you normally would, but I would also create a seating chart so people know which direction to head. You may also want to consider doing a theme/color/pattern of sorts with the flowers or chair sashes in each section to make each one identifiable without a lot of guess work...

Or put pretty numbers on the backs of the chairs...like, a large, pretty hanging sign with a number, not a tiny number that's hard to spot Smiley winking

That is one long table. And each guest will have about two other guests to talk to.

I love the look of long tables, and I like the idea of a map at the entrance. Split the table into sections and have that on the map too.

My venue is very very long but not wide (or vice verse however you look at it) so to go along with the space the long tables will add to the rooms natural shape compared to circular tables that make it look cluttered to me. It cant wait to show pictures of it! I think I will do the map, place cards, and name card. I also like the chair number idea too. If I can find away to make people not feel bad if their number 138 compared to 14 (you know people can be funny about things). Thanks!

I agree with Amy S...assigned seating sounds like a must. Then you won't end up with people not sitting together to fill holes. So I'd do escort cards and place cards at the individual seats.
