How do i ask them??

Astrid, on September 23, 2019 at 10:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 15
I don’t have a lot of close friends to be bridesmaids, but for the ladies I have in mind, I have no idea when/how to ask them to be a part of my wedding! Do I have to do the gift box things or is calling/texting acceptable??

You don't have to do a gift box, but I would definitely ask in person rather than calling/texting. Just makes it more personal! I gave my girls these with their favorite bottle of wine and a hand written note on the back of these cards Smiley smile

I asked one (out if state) BM by phone. My MOH, I don’t think I ever did ask. We just both assumed.

I did a koozie that said "will you be my bridesmaid?" and a little candle, pocketbac, and candle holder that said "love" from Bath and Body works. It was cheap and cute!

I was asked to be in a wedding a few months ago, and she made these little gift bags with some cute saying and a shot glass in it that says something. I can’t remember what now. But honestly I wish she saved her money and just asked me. I personally don’t understand the whole bridal party proposal thing. I would much rather have gotten a phone call, or ask me while we’re hanging out. Not everything needs to be a big deal. Just my opinion.

I called and asked my people. No need to do a proposal if you dont want to.

Ask in person if you can, but otherwise, a quick phone call works Smiley smile All of my BMs and MOH live out of state. I was able to ask one in person (one of FH's sisters came to our city for work about a week after we got engaged), but asked the rest on the phone. I'm giving them gifts for the wedding itself.

I think calling and texting is fine! You don't need to do anything elaborate Smiley smile

I created boxes for all 8 of my bridesmaids (including my MOH). I did them myself so it only cost ~$20/box. I'm not crafty AT ALL and this may very well be the only thing we DIY for our wedding lol. I got the candles from bath & body works, stickers from etsy, and the crinkle paper+boxes from Amazon. The mini bottles of prosecco sold in cases of 4 so it worked out perfectly. The confetti popper also had a small size of mascara in it (I work for a makeup company and get discounts in the company store). I only got nail polish for my MOH but again it was from the company store. FH ordered t-shirts of the groomsmen's favorite sports teams and instead of the name on the back it said "groomsman".

We loved asking them in person because it gave us an excuse to see everyone throughout the summer. Plus, it was a reason to celebrate as soon as we asked them to be in the bridal party Smiley smile

I would do in-person (if they are local) or call if they are not. The more you make the asking a big deal, the more you put a lot of pressure on the person to accept--even if they don't want to/can't afford it/etc. And then you get drama later on, because they feel roped into something they didn't really want.

Boxes/proposal gifts are a nice touch but by no means required. I think a phone call at the least would be appropriate or even send them a card (snail mail) asking them to be a part of your big day. If you want to send a small gift you could always insert a gift card to bath and body works or Visa gift card with a set amount on it with your proposal card.

OH MY GOSH those candle labels!! Which shop did you get them from on Etsy? I would love to give these to my bridal party over wedding weekend as part of their Thank You gift from us. What a freaking Brilliant idea too!! Bath and Body works always has sales and you can stock these candles up gradually!!

With my first set, everyone just assumed that they were in the Bridal Party.

It’s a good that I had never provided the Proposal 📦es because 2 had to be replaced.

So, I combined the Proposal stuff with their Thank you👜 (Tote Bags). Everyone loved their swag and Saturday was a lovely day.

Thank you!! That's exactly what I did with the candles, super affordable and better than just gifting a random candle with nothing on it Smiley laugh

I got them from ElleeDees on etsy, here's the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/608272869/create-your-own-text-candle-label?ref=notif_psffl
