How did you pick your wedding song?

Tia & Don, on January 19, 2012 at 5:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

We dont have a song, never have. We love music, and I think this may have been our problem from the start, all songs have meaning to us.

There are loads of contenders so far.....

Forever - Ben Harper

Happy ever after in your eyes - Ben Harper

Only You - Joshua Radin

Feels like home - Chantal Kreviazuk

Stand by me - Ben E King

Fly me to the moon - Frank Sinatra

When I fall in love - Nat King Cole

Best Friend - Tim McGraw

Beloved One - Ben Harper

Better Together - Jack Johnson

By my side - Ben Harper

Cowboy in me - Tim mcgraw

We would truly just be picking a song. Some of the words in each song have meaning to us and our story, they are all our kind of music. It just seems weird to just pick a song and not have one because....

Anyone else struggling with this.

I love seeing the oldies on your list.

Our wedding song has been our song for the last 9 years. It is Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes". When I met my DH, I was on a "meet" with a another guy, a computer date. There was something in his eyes that just drew me to him and vice versa. I am not a major Genesis or Peter Gabriel fan, but that song is just us, especially the fast ending as we love to dance.

    Good luck picking your song!

Well I'm a huge fan of Cassie Steele [she played Manny in Degrassi] and she had this one song called "You and I" and when I first heard it, I saw myself at my own wedding dancing to that as my first dance song...and from then on, I wanted that song and when the wedding talk came up, he listened to it and he pictured it too =]

We don't really have a song either. I've known I wanted to dance to Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love" at my wedding since the first time I heard it on Honeymoon in Vegas. Then I heard the Andrea Boccelli cover of it and fell in love. FH never even had a say in it!

I love that you guys have stories behind your songs.. Im jealous.. everyone I ask has a song. My FH and I have known each other for almost 6 years and (best friends for a few of those years) but we have still never had a "ah ha" moment with music that I so wish we had. Im hoping that what ever we pick will clearly then be our song and have loads of meaning in the future for us, Im just not sure how to pick.

Carole we LOVE oldies.. we always joke that we were truly meant to be born in the 60's. But anything old, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald... all favorites of both of us, I think this makes it even harder.

We picked ours easily because we had a super whirlwind crazy dating experience and were engaged within 3 months... lol

So on the day home from driving down to tell my mom about us being engaged the song "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascall Flatts came on the radio, and we are both big country fans so we cranked it and were singing along... and I said "you know, this song tells how I feel about you.... can it be our wedding song??" My FH turned listened for a minute and then turned to me with damp eyes and said he thought it was perfect Smiley smile

First off, what is a "wedding song"?

We don't have a song either! Our taste in music goes from one end of the spectrum to the other. We ended up picking "Fly Me to the Moon" for our first dance, because we hired an acoustic guitar player/singer to perform and I LOVE how he sounds when he sings that song. Lol.

"Feels Like Home" is another good one - I just noticed that was on your list!

Ha! I walked down the aisle to Bless the broken road!!! And we had Tim McGraw and Faith Hill for our first dance.

Anyway, we didn't really have a song either. We only knew what we wanted to do for our last dance. The rest? We talked to the DJ, he gave us suggestions and we picked a couple. We don't really have stories either, and I still believe I'm happily married :-)

We don't have 'a song'. I have picked (with his approval) 6 songs for our wedding that suit us, and will be appropriate at different parts of the evening.

    Mom's and BM's entrance - 1,2,3,4 by The Plain White T's

My entrance - Grow Old With You by The Wedding Singer (haven't decided on musical or movie version yet)

Signing of Register - The Story by Brandi Carlile

Recessional - It's The End Of The World by Great Big Sea

Entrance to reception - The Office Theme Song (we love the show, we met at work)

First Dance - When I'm 64 by The Beatles

The key isn't having 'a song', it's choosing a few songs that would be appropriate at different times in the evening. All should reflect you, your hubby and your relationship.

We struggled with the same thing. I thought we had it figured out and then a few months later FH confessed that he didn't like the song. Then he wanted a song that I hate, so we went on circles for a while.

I love "Feels Like Home." We're have that sung/played during our unity candle ceremony.

"We" don't have a song.......but I have a song for us. He is def not into the same music as I am, so I have my own personal favs that remind me of us. Every so often, I make him suffer & listen to them.

    I'll Be by Edwin McCain

Stand By Me by Mickey Gilley

    Love Smiley smile

We had the same problem. Then, we were watching old Fred Astaire movies and started dancing around in our living room to "Dancing Cheek to Cheek". And that was it!

Maybe play a few of them and dance around your house, see how you feel?

I LOVE the writer's version of "Feels Like Home".....

I love your choices so far!

Me and FH both had strong choices... mine is "Bless this broken road" by Rascal Flatts and his is "We've got tonight" by Bob Seger........

One day I came home last week and I said... guess what our wedding song is? And I said "We've got tonight" by Bob Seger.... and he almost died :-)

I decided to let him pick since it made him happy.

Plus... Rascal flatts are awesome... but overplayed at weddings, as I can see above. Still a great choice though!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH... So while you were all writing Smiley smile I think we decided that

'It feels like home' Fits us really well, so I think it will be out first dance song.

I think we are going to use.. Better together by Jack Johnson as our 'walk down the isle song' we are getting married on the beach (mexico), I would LOVE to have a mariachi band but its way to expensive so we have decided to go with our own music.

I also really love Ben Harpers - Forever for the walk down the isle too but maybe we'll use it for our walk back up the isle.

Some of my picks are kinda bad wedding pics and I honestly didnt realize it until I stopped and forced my self to listen to the words of each. So ladies dont assume my picks are good options.. cause they certainly are not all Smiley winking

Thanks for the input Smiley smile

Oh Jessica thats sweet. My FH's first choice is 'Cowboy in me' Tim McGraw.. his reason is because ... this one time in band camp.. ha ha ... no really this one time when I was very upset with him he wasnt able to express himself with words and begged me to listen to this song, Im not a teary person AT ALL and I bawled!!! ... the ugly kind lol. So he associates that song with our ability to communicate without words. Which is all nice and fuzzy BUT when you actually listen to the words, they are not so nice.. especially for our wedding. But thankfully he likes 'It feels like home' too and is good with that pick.
