How did you make really nice, yet extremely inexpensive centerpieces? Did you rent?

BalletShoesRachel, on September 5, 2013 at 9:29 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 28

So we're trying very hard to keep our centerpieces cheap, mostly because we keep going over budget on so many other things. Anyway, we're doing a white-on-white wedding, with hints of silver, gold, and crystal. We were thinking about doing a tall, clear vase, with crystals or those gel beads or something in the bottom, maybe with floating candles, or a submerged flower, or some such thing. Well, we can't find the vases we like for less than $15 a piece, and we think that will be pretty steep for 22 tables, not to mention that that's not including any of the filling, etc!

We considered renting, but have no idea if that's even a thing around here.

Have you rented centerpieces? How willing were they to work with you? Did you like the end result? Did it save you money?

How do you find components for a centerpiece that will not ruin the theme, yet aren't insanely expensive?

We themed ours "enchanted forest" for a reason haha- I'm using a lot of nature to decorate like pine cones and tree stumps and such. I know this is zero help to you but I would say search extensively online before giving up on an idea... I found the lanterns I'm using for roughly $3 bucks a piece after a few days of searching vs the $8 or so a piece for the same lanterns I saw elsewhere.

Consider buying vs. renting because you can sell them after. I bought lanterns at Hobby Lobby and plan on selling them. Since lanterns are big right now, they should sell easily and end up being like $3 per lantern (hopefully)

Ladies - please let me know about your laterns when you are done! i am actually looking for some for our wedding centerpieces Smiley smile.

and in terms of the cheap center pieces dilemma - there are renting sites where you can rent centerpieces. I know my friend is actually selling all of her parts together... so those things are out there. i would just search, search, search!

I love that idea though - i wouldn't say give up on it - maybe vases just aren't the way to go! i know that the dollartree by me sells vases online for about $3 bucks. you can also try thejarstore.com. They sell more than just jars Smiley smile. good luck!!!! you will end up with an absolutely lovely centerpiece! i have no doubt! Smiley smile

I'm actually doing the tall vases for our centerpieces. We are doing the tall vases with 3 calla lilies and white gel crystals at the bottom. I am renting them from the florist. Everywhere I looked for the glass vases were at least 30 or more depending how tall I wanted the vase, so I decided to go to a florist and hire them to do all the work. They are charging us $50 a centerpiece, yes its expensive, but i'm in jersey and don't have to do all the run around and work preparing the centerpieces and the day of. Maybe you should call some florists around you and get some quotes just so you can compare the price difference and have more of an idea.

I was thinking about doing the submerged flowers in a vase thing to and came across this site:

    http://www.quickcandles.com/Set-of-36-Cylinder-Vases-and-3-Floating-Candles-p/cyl_fl_set_36.htm

You could do something like this:

I should also add that I saw very similar vases at ikea that I think were about $12-15 per set of three (I forget exactly, but I remember it being around $150 for 12). So depending on how many I need and how much shipping is, I may go the ikea route and just get the floating candles separately. I like that you can do whatever color flowers you want. They also had whole bunch of things to fill it, rocks, and sparkly things, balls that looks like they were made of twine, almost.

Does your venue by any chance provide anything? Our venue does provide centerpieces (while not very elaborate). They actually provide the gel beads, crystals in our wedding colors and the vases that we had planned on using. We are incorporating our original centerpiece idea with what the venue provides to pretty much diminsh our cost on centerpieces.

No, the venue we ended up choosing doesn't provide any of that. Smiley sad We're really disappointed about that, as they're a floral conservatory, and the other like it that we looked at provides all of their own flowers, BUT it's not the end of the world. We weren't planning on floral centerpieces, anyway.

Seriously, though, where do people resell their centerpiece stuff? We are thinking of looking into that, especially as what we're looking at seems to be a current trend.

Try the dollar tree store. I got everything to make all 24 of my centerpieces for less than $70. You could always check their website and see if there is any vases you like.

Why don't you use smaller vases, put them on little mirrors and just have a candle in them? I'm sooooo digging that look.

You can resell on ebay. I bought cool looking wine glasses form the dollar tree for $1.00 each, artificial roses from ebay much cheaper on ebay than in the craft stores. I am going to place the rose then put the wine glasses upside down on top of the rose then place a flameless candle on top which would actually be the bottom of the wine glass.

I'm doing my own branch centerpieces, using real branches. With clay pots, paint flowers and jewels, I'm spending around $75 for 10 tables. That and then larger centerpiece for sign in/escort table and 2 small ones for head table and cake table. So 13 tables in all.
