How did you handle the stress and stay healthy before your wedding?

Dani, on November 18, 2014 at 1:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

How did you stay healthy before your wedding? I have been sick for a month with a sinus infection/allergies and feel like nothing has worked, including my doctor. Between overtime at work, 2 classes, moving this weekend, and all these final details of the wedding my gym routine, healthy habits, and schedule have been shot to HELL this past week. Which just makes me stress more. I need routine! This craziness is driving me nuts and it doesn't help that nothing will go back to normal even after the wedding because of holidays and learning to live with someone else. My hair, skin, and nails have all become really bad as well.

I really really don't want to be a sick bride. Many of my friends were the sick bride. I want to enjoy the day and my HM without looking or feeling miserable. Any and all suggestions welcome!

Biotin isn't working, been doing nasal rinses, mucinex, sudafed, rx from dr., allergy pills, vitamin C....

I know you're wedding is closing in but perhaps take a day or two (the weekend?) and just completely decompress. Do what you'd usually do to de-stress (gym? wine? massage?). You just need to take a step back and let your body catch up and heal - it seems like you're burning the candle at both ends.

3 weeks before our wedding DH and I traveled to his cousin's wedding in NH - we decided that weekend we wouldn't think, worry, speak, anything about our wedding. Just relax, enjoy the cute little resort town we were staying in and just enjoy each other's company. And it was a much welcomed relief. When we returned home on Monday I felt refreshed and was ready to hit the ground running.

Sleep works best for me. If I get too overwhelmed, my body shuts down and I will end up sleeping for like, 12 hours straight. I also love to read, so curling up with a book, with my phone off and no outside forces for even an hour works wonders for me. I feel ya though, I'm a full time student, full time employee and we have started house hunting in the middle of all of this too.

I know myself and I am a big time stress eater. So I had snacks around at ALL TIMES that were "safe" to eat. If I go through an entire bag of baby carrots in one sitting I'm not going that far off track Smiley smile

I understand completely how you are feeling. literally ever since my wedding night (october 18th) i have been so sick with allergies. i was already coughing and had a sore throat the week of my wedding and on my wedding but i really think that the adrenaline of my wedding helped. my body really held up until immediately after my wedding where it all fell apart.

so hopefully your body will do the same!

until then LOTS AND LOTS of rest & water! my doctor gave me a steroid shot which helped a little...(maybe a couple of days before your wedding get one), she has me on claritin during the day, tesslon balls (help with cough) three times a day, flonase twice a day, and benadryl at night. my doctor told me the stuff that knocks you out is going to help the most. really hope that you get to feeling better!!

I continued to workout, ate high protein diet & adding coconut oil & bee pollen to my healthy eating regiment. Also, I took Airborne everyday with a multi-vitamin. Cut out sugar & can foods and processed foods. I was working a lot of overtime, so I didn't get much sleep or rest. But I did drink plenty of water, as a matter of fact; that's all I did was drink water.

Honestly, I think you are overloading your body. Bring it back to the basics. Sleep, drink lots of water, and eat well. Take a yoga class (actually my plan this weekend, if they're open!). Unless it's a wedding necessity, scratch it.

Completely agree with A&J- try to just relax. You might not be getting better because you are so stressed about not getting better. (I find that happens a lot with sleep- I cannot sleep when I know it is important to get to bed early!).

My advice: go to a yoga class and relax, get a massage, drink some orange juice and some tea, pop in a movie, and go to bed early. Spend a full 24 hours just relaxing- no stress, no work, nothing. I know it's so hard with everything else happening (jobs, classes, moving) but if you take that one day and make room in your schedule for it, then I think you'll feel loads better.

Just checked in and see that comment hidden, really I always miss stuff, someone must have been having a bad day.

Well you guys we moved this weekend in the pouring rain but now that it is out of the way I feel way less stressed. I've been making sure to get tons of sleep and I can feel myself getting better slowly. Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I think having some time off from work for Thanksgiving will also help!
