How did you ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding?

I made them these boxes a couple weeks' ago. Super easy download from etsy: I just bought a mini bottle of wine, casual earrings (not wedding day jewelry), chap stick, lip balm, nail polish, chocolate bar, and a stamped note. I'm not crafty, I'm not cutesy, I'll be nearly 34 by the time I get married (shudder...), but I thought this was an adorable, creative way to ask!

I would wait until you're closer to 1 year to ask.

I asked with them in person. When they said yes, I gave them a bottle of their favorite kind of wine (and one of my girls is beer snob so I got her a bottle of craft beer). I replaced the labels with ones I had printed on Avery labels and slapped them on. I wanted to show that I appreciated them saying yes, but not go over the top. My advice would be to keep it simple.
