How can i make this dress better?

Casey, on September 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 14
I purchased this dress thinking it was the one, looking bad it, I'm not in love. I just feel like the dress is too plain and needs something more. After thinking about selling it, I thought I can just jazz it up with sleeves and tulle over the skirt. I would love some opinions/ideas. I would be forever grateful!

The dress looks wonderful without additions. You should not have any significant concerns -- as if the dress would not be adequate on its own. An elaborate necklace could be nice though. You could just add a cathedral veil or a cape. The cape would possibly cover your shoulders and a bit over your arms. You could also add detachable sleeves or long gloves if you like.

An unusual option would be to add lightly color tulle connected about a foot from the edge of the train or possibly without the color. Another option could be to add some lace strips or colored ribbons running down the train -- but that would be a bit experimental.

What would you figure would make a greater impact? Also, some other people may add some fresh ideas too.

Something with glitz and glam. Like this one for instance. I just felt like my eyes popped more and it was more regal.

I think your dress is beautiful! But I also understand wanting to add something to it. If you don't plan to buy a new dress, what about keeping the dress as-is, but adding the sparkle in the accessories? You could get a long, dramatic veil, a sparkly hair clip (or tiara or headband), and jewelry? That may add the glam you're looking for! Otherwise, a seamstress may be able to add a layer of sparkle or lace along the shoulder straps and/or over the skirt?

Lisa, thanks so much for your advice. I greatly appreciate it. I will definitely have to see what the seamstress can do with the dress to jazz it up.

I think the dress is lovely. If you want more glitz, maybe a long veil with pearls or rhinestones along the edge. I wore a cape with mine that was so stunning and dramatic.

Adding mesh sleeves with pearls on them would be super trendy/fun! you can also have rhinestones/pearls added directly to the dress.

maybe a statement veil? there are a ton of beautiful embroidered ones on etsy

Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely have to try some of those. I guess for me I just keep coming back to that second dress in my posts. I cant stop thinking about it.

Honestly this dress is just gorgeous on you! Maybe add a cathedral train veil with peals added on it! Would be such a beautiful addition to the dress!

If it is in the budget you can always consign the dress you bought and buy the other one. Or see if a resale shop has a dress similar you can buy.

Otherwise try to remember that no one will be comparing you/your dress on the wedding day to anything else! Everyone will just see you in whatever dress you are wearing and think you look great. You'll be the only one comparing

I’d get rid of the waistline completely and let it flow form fitting straight down and alter the neck into a sleek scoop or square neck

Both dresses are super lovely! But they are also quite different. You won't be able to transform one into the other.

Listen to your gut. If you envision people on your wedding day telling you that you look amazing and your inner thoughts saying "you should have seen the other dress!" then you have your answer.
