How are you letting guests know where they are sitting for the reception?

Cassandra, on July 16, 2019 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 36

We are having assigned tables for the reception (not assigned seats). I would love to just say everyone sit where ever they want but there are a couple problems with this for our specific family and friends. Some people we are inviting just can't be near each other and we don't want it to be awkward for people to find a table. I know everyone will get up and mingle anyway but for dinner purposes I just want to try and make things smooth. Those of you that have seating charts, what are you doing to let people know where they sit? Is it an actual chart, someone leading people to tables, or some kind of place card? I could use some idea please.

We did escort cards - pretty standard procedure for weddings in our area. At the entry we just had one table with tent-cards with everyone's name and table assignment.

We are doing place cards. Seating charts can be really pretty, but they’re difficult to make changes to once they’re finished.

Hey Melissa, Thank you. I have never been to a wedding that had assigned tables so I wasn't sure.

Hey Caytlyn, thank you for the help. I was worried that a chart would just feel confusing.

We did escort cards and they were arranged on a table in alphabetical order. Outside of the card said the persons name and inside of the card said table #

We're doing a big chart, which will be right at the entrance to the reception room. I have the design for it, but won't actually fill it in until we get our RSVPs back.

I did escort cards and set them up in alphabetical (NOT TABLE NUMBER) order on a couple of tables that ppl had to walk by on their way into the reception.

Went to a family wedding a few years ago with a similar situation and no assigned seating... SO MUCH DRAMA so I empathize with you girl! As a guest I prefer escort cards because you can drop it down at your spot and “claim” your seat, then go to the bar, mingle during cocktail hour, etc. and have a place to go back to. Also helpful if you only know one other person at the table—you can both make sure you’ll be next to each other. I’ve been to a few weddings with big seating charts at the entrance and that worked out okay too, but they were also smaller weddings. I’ve also heard that it can be a pain if you have to make last minute changes due to cancellations/late RSVPs. Also if you’re doing a plated style meal your caterer will likely require escort cards so they can easily determine who ordered what. Hope this helps!

At cocktail hour, I'd have a seating chart listed so people can see!

We are attaching our place cards to our favors, and will have them on a table in numeric order in the cocktail tent, just outside the seating area for dinner.

I will just be doing seating chart using an old window.. similar to this: How are you letting guests know where they are sitting for the reception? 3

Seating charts are really common in my area, the only time I've ever seen specific assigned seats are when its a served dinner and has to be that way so the staff knows where each meal goes.

I'm having a small destination wedding with 2-3 tables max plus a sweetheart table. I'm limited on what I can bring. I like the idea of just assigning tables versus specific seats but planned to do place cards and coordinating menus to add some decor. I guess people can swap seats if they like. I'm sure not sure about a separate table with cards for only 20-25 people. I guess a framed list on the table might work as well. Just not sure about it yet. Trying to finalize the remaining wish washy guests but at least my guests have to book a reservation so I will know about final headcount in a reasonable time before the wedding in Nov.

I’m doing a destination wedding as well and am assigning tables, not seats. I was going to do a note card for our guests that’ll also act as a table card. So on the outside it’ll have their name folded in half but when they open it, it’ll be a thank you for coming note. I’m not doing table favors either. We are gonna do welcome bags that’ll act as our favor that we’ll give to our guests when they arrive.

I ordered a seating chart template off of Etsy and then printed it at Office Max. I then bought a 18x24 frame from Walmart and put it on an easel for my guests.

I had no problems and only compliments of how cute and simple it was Smiley smile

We did escort cards that doubled as favors. They were skeleton key bottle openers. The tag had homemade labels with their table info.

I'm doing these too! Did a lot of people take them? How did you let everyone know they were bottle openers/favors?
