How are you getting from the reception to your first night as a married couple?

Catherine, on July 9, 2019 at 3:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

I am getting married in April of 2020 and am not sure how we will get to our hotel after our reception. We both want to drink and enjoy ourselves, so we don't want to drive. But also, we don't want to ask a friend/family member to not drink so they could drive us, PLUS we don't really want to be with someone right after the reception, and our hotel is about an hour and fifteen minutes away from the place of reception.

Are you driving yourselves?

Is a friend/relative driving you?

Are you hiring a car service?

I don't drive, so not me...if fiancee is sober he'll drive, if not i'm sure someone will drive us either home or to a hotel if we stay in one. I'd love to have a car service, but it's not in the budget. There are three hotels less than 5 minutes from our venue, one i'll probably stay at the night before and get ready at, so we'll probably just get two nights

We have a shuttle that is picking people up from the reception to the hotel. I'm guessing that's not an option for you since the hotel is so far away. I would say take an Uber, Lyft or Taxi so you both can drink, don't have to drive and don't have to have anyone drive you there.

Hi April 2020 twin!!Smiley heart My fiance and will be leaving our two daughters with my MOH for a week, and our venue is a 2 minute drive to our apartment. So following the reception, we will say bye to our kiddos, and either have a family member who didn't drink bring us to our hotel, or simply take an uber. No biggie!!

Our venue has an Inn on site so we don't have to go anywhere. I agree with PP about getting a car service. I don't know if you are using a limo or anything to arrive in but when I was married before, we had the limo service send a town car to bring us to the airport.

I'm also an April 2020 TRIPLET! I haven't even thought of how we were going to get there. But I know we'll probably get a luxury Uber to the reception since we'll have our groom and bridal party take us separately to the ceremony

For a drive that distance I think I would choose a car service. For us we stayed at the same hotel as our after party so we wouldn't have to mess with any transportation

    Uber or Lyft

What did anyone do in these situations before these companies?

We hired a limo to take us from the reception to the hotel! I know we will drink and we wanted the drive by ourselves.

If either of us are sober enough we will drive ourselves to the hotel. If not, my grandma will drive us.

Was thinking of renting a cool car or something but everything has added up so quickly that it's looking like we'll just be calling an Uber! lol

I just thought it's going to be interesting trying to cram my dress into someone's Uber LOL Smiley xd

Honestly so glad I read this because I have not even thought of this!!! Probably a shuttle. Or someone would be willing to take us to the hotel we are all staying at!

Our hotel (which is also owned by the people who run our venue) is only two blocks away. Thankfully this means we can just take a nice walk together when it is time to leave.

Our hotel shared a parking lot with our reception venue, so we just walked over after the reception ended!

If it wasn't, we would have just taken an uber probably.

We are driving ourselves and by that I mean I will be driving us home haha

We chose this because one we didn't want to hire a car service and two we want to begin trying for a baby immediately after the wedding so I have actually chosen to stop drinking after my bachelorette party which is next weekend. Plus I'm not a big drinker anyway so it didn't matter to me to drive home.

We're probably driving ourselves, and some bridal party members, back to the hotel.
