Houston-Inexpensive Clubhouse for Reception

Mersadaz, on July 23, 2016 at 8:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

Hello!!! I am trying to find a venue for our reception that is not expensive at all. We are going to be buying a house next year and we are trying to keep the cost of the wedding as low as possible without it look cheap. we are getting married at Marmion Park in Houston Heights. The Gazebo is costing us $200. I am looking for a clubhouse or community center that will hold 100 people and will allow us to bring our own wine as we have already bought 30 bottles. (in a wine cooler) I would prefer it to be in a decent neighborhood but I am open to any options that you have. The maximum price for just the clubhouse itself without catering or things like that is $500. I just moved to Texas about a year ago and I am not familiar with any of the areas or things Houston has to offer. Please help!

I just want to know how you will be keeping 30 bottles of wine fresh for over a year. Do you have a wine cellar? Will you be the one turning these bottles every day? ETA: I have no idea why that's the only thing I got from this...

Yeah. What's the deal with the wine? It does go bad if not properly stored....

Me too. Store the wine properly or it will go off. This is an international board so I really can't advise re: venues.

Guys, if they already bought 30 bottles do we really think it's nice enough wine that it will need to be turned periodically? No offense to OP, just saying...

Les is correct. They are originally priced 15.99 bottles of red moscato that we caught on Sale. Does anyone have a recommendations on what I asked about though? I am desperate.

OP you're asking about a very specific region in Texas. I live in Vancouver. You would be best to try and find a local board.

I am not familiar with the area unfortunately. But, when I was looking for venue space I used a website called peerspace. It is kind of like the space rental version of airbnb. It may help you find a space within your budget. When I was looking at venue spaces, before going with an all inclusive place, one thing that I often found was that they required liability insurance if alcohol would be served. So just something else to budget for. Good luck!

I'm new to the website. I picked the Houston option but this is what happened.

Right the forums are international. If you edit the title to say Houston it might help direct people who know the area.

I'm a native Houstonian and can't really think a clubhouse type place near there. Check VFWs or even theatre spaces like Obsidian Artspace in the Heights.

I would find local facebook community pages and ask for recommendations! Local fire halls would also be a good place to look!

A cheap place in the Heights may be tricky. It's getting pretty expensive up there these days. The Arboretum may be a decent option. We considered it before deciding on getting married in Hill Country.

    Eta: here's there website... http://houstonarboretum.org/facility-rentals/weddings-receptions/

Is it just red moscato? People might like white and less sweet wine so a variety might be nice.

I say drink the wine now, you'll need it through planning and find a nice venue with a bar and catering for your guests.

I am not asking questions about wine. I am simply asking if any one knows of an inexpensive community center or clubhouse in Houston. It doesn't have to be in Houston heights.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) this is the Internet and you can't dictate the responses you get.

The Heights probably isn't the best place to look for anything competitively priced, from my experience. Sorry I don't have a ton of advice, but I would maybe check the Tomball area, or even Richmond.

OP, are you on the app? You can go the Venues tab and type in Houston Tx to look for venues in that area. I'm unclear if you've already tried this?

I found my out of state venue via Google I typed in Wedding Venues for the city, state I'm getting married in. I'm unclear if you've tried this option as well.

I would try vfw's. That will probably give you the best deal. I live south of Houston so I'm not 100% familiar with venues.
