my future husband and i aleady have everything we need for a home...the only problem is...is that we want to buy a home! Is there a polite way to say this so instead of getting gifts we can get the help?!

I put the word out through the bridal party and close family members. This is a sticky subject so tread carefully. Some people get really insulted because they have it on their hearts to give more traditional gifts. I'd register for a few things you want to upgrade. Or maybe you're tired of the same old bedspread and towels and ready to redecorate. Getting married tends to bring out the homemaker instincts in a young bride. What I'm saying is get the word out tackfully, but still give people options. You want them to feel like their gifts will be welcomed and appreciated regardless.

Hey Meghan, I set up a place where folks could donate to our home purchase at www.rainfallofenvelopes.com/Give.aspx?eid=1076

check out our page. I thought it was pretty neat and it is cheaper than most other sites. Your guest dont have to pay any fees.

I also put info about our home registry on my wedding website

    www.stephanieandkeith2010.com

    look at the registry tab.

Patrica - Yes, we did that too. We kept a few things on a Kohls & Target registry because my great grandma refused to do they honeymoon thing and some people like his grandparents don't have a computer to go to the honeymoon wishes site. Plus there are some traditional people still, were just not.

We kept those 2 registeries for 2 reasons, those are 2 places people have charge cards because I got this from my nana "Oh you're registered at Kohls, goodie I can use my extra 20% off coupons and charge card!!" I also saw it on a website saying that people who want to get you a gift, but can't cash wise or something.. are more then likely to pull out the charge. NOT that I want our guests to do that or expect that, but.. it's a solution.

I don't think it's tacky, We're going to do it. We put that we'd like cash, but set up a traditional registry for those who wish to go for the more traditional gift.

WOW! Thank you for all the ideas...so far reading everything I feel better knowing what to do. I dont think its tacky to ask for help but just needed to know the polite way to do it. Ive heard of the money tree and money dance. I always grew up knowing about it...people doing it...and no one ever talked bad about it! The internet wedding websites are a neat thing! How does that work?! Im not too good with computers! Do you just list what you need and someone transfers money into the account??

    Have a great day!

This is what we have on our wedding website when you click the "Registry" link.

    -----

Of course, the pleasure of your company at our wedding is the greatest gift you can give us. However, if you clicked this link looking for a registry, then please read on.

We're not in our twenties anymore; we've combined the contents of our apartments and found we have at least two of everything. So rather than registering for all those things a new couple usually needs to start a home, we've set up a honeymoon registry.

And isn't buying us a bottle of wine to share under the stars in Santorini more fun than buying us towels? We think so. We hope you will, too.

To view our registry, click here [the word "here" is a direct link to our Honeyfund site].
