Hotel welcome bags?

Taylor, on August 2, 2017 at 7:55 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Hi Kittens!

Are any of you doing hotel welcome bags? I like the idea of doing at least a welcome letter with a schedule of events and things to do in the area. However, our wedding is sort of a destination wedding (people traveling about 200 miles on average to get there). I do not have the budget to do a fancy welcome bag. If I were to do one, I'd like to keep it at $3 or less per person. Any thoughts?

Honestly, i hemmed and hawed over the welcome bags because i was in the same position as you. i talked to a bunch of people about wedding they had gone to and not a single person could tell me about the contents of a really great bag. usually they said, "i dk, i think it had water and snacks?" so the point it, i felt as if i was going to spend money on something that wasnt meaningful to people and the most helpful thing to do would be distribute a welcome letter with the schedule of events. MUCH cheaper and easier to manage, so that's what guests will receive when they check in.

Travelled over 600 mi in early June. Missed the bag in beginning, got end of ceremony. Worthless inside...there is the Internet. Little goodies a waste.

Spend your Time and money elsewhere.

If it's not in the budget, and you want to do something have one of you bm's research Pinterest for some inexpensive diy bag ideas, she can help you put them together and print the letter for everyone, all you'd need to is sign. It would make a lovely impression on your guests, I think, just that you're being so thoughtful

I'm definitely doing hotel bags- I always appreciated them at weddings. Filled with water, Advil and drunk snacks. If you buy things in bulk it's not that expensive and not everyone stays overnight.

Some of the guests where I work so very lavish, individually personalized welcome bags. However, some couples provide more simple ones.

My favorite was someone who provided a welcome letter/schedule of events, a few local attractions to check-out, and a small snack from the local bakery; I believe it was two small cookies that are the bakery's most popular.

Another couple just provided their OOT guests staying at the hotel a six pack from a local brewery and a bottle of wine from a local place, too, lol.

I personally love them! Along with a sweet note or event schedule, water, snacks, and headache medicine are always appreciated.

We're doing welcome bags. I don't have that many out of town guests staying at hotels--most are staying at my house or at the property on site where we're getting married. The ones staying at the hotels are getting little welcome bags with local snacks, water, an itinerary and a letter with some information on local restaurants and attractions, and some free materials on the area from the chamber of commerce.

We did one bag per room at our hotel..handed out 40-something bags. We included mini champagne and OJ, travel packs of Advil, mints, crackers, and a homemade cookie from a local bakery that represented the town we got married in. It probably added up to $5-6 per bag but everyone loved them! We got so many compliments.

Jennifer, where did you get the mini bottles of champagne? We are doing welcome bags for about 20 rooms, but hadn't though mini champagne could be in our budget for them.

I'm doing a DW and I will have welcome bags. I got 2 dozen pre-decorated silver n white (my wedding color's) welcome bags for $20. I plan on putting 2 cookies, Advil/Tylenol, pretzel, poncho (Niagara Falls), small bottle water, assorted candy, a door hanger, welcome and thank you note, and a list of places in the area they can see. I found this kit/bundle on Etsy I will have made. My guest is <30.

At first I wasn't planning on doing any but we got our hotel list today and have all the rooms we blocked booked. Granted most of them are local and aren't coming from too far our wedding is over at 1am and we live about an hour from the venue so I decided to do a welcome bag. Going to put a schedule in there of the shuttle, welcome/thank you note, the next night there's the Mayweather/Mcgregor fight and we are going to the casino to watch it and we are going to add info for that, his/her favorite candy, something salty, water, Tylenol, Tums, and a protein bar. I bought most stuff in bulk and on Amazon. Also went generic brand and not name brand.

I love the idea and personally I'm doing them. I'm putting snacks, a thank you letter, a door sign, advil, some water ect. Just little things they might need. In my friends bags I'm adding a hangover survival kit for fun. Make sure you ask if the hotel charges to put them in the rooms, some do!

We just called a few different liquor stores and asked if they had small "single serving" champagne bottles. I've even seen them in some grocery stores, but some liquor stores will give you a discount to buy a bulk order like a case. And it ended up being enough for two mimosas so it worked well for us!

I plan on keeping mine pretty basic along with all of the other ones I have received. Water, Motrin, a few snacks and a schedule of events.

Can we stop with the "kittens"? You don't need to address us every time. You can just start the post with your question.

    Kittens is getting really annoying.

We're doing welcome bag with a couple of local goodies in, we are providing maps of the little island we are getting married on, with a itinerary list, some waters, there is a small farmers market on island who make fresh cookies and some local chips too. Nothing too crazy but people are traveling a long way for our big day so I would like to help them settle in to their hotels/rental homes with a little treat!
