Hotel room blocks - the hotel wants us to pay for all the rooms?!

I'm very confused by this. We have limited options on what hotels we can reserve room blocks at because of the venue locations...a lot of the hotels are old and run down. I'm very confused by this. We have limited options on what hotels we can reserve room blocks at because of the venue locations...a lot of the hotels are old and run down. We picked the one new Hampton Inn within 10 miles. For some reason, the way their room blocks work is that WE pay for all of the rooms, and the guests do not pay the hotel individually. Is this normal? Would the people who make the reservations then pay us? That feels awkward as well to tell them that they have to give us $200 directly after staying in the hotel.

We used Hampton Inn for our wedding room block. It was a courtesy block of 10 rooms, there was no penalty if we didn't fill a certain number of rooms.

I'm sure different hotel owners implement different policies and the time of year may affect thing as well, but I find it strange that they would require you to pay for all of the rooms upfront. That's not really a room block, that's just you reserving and paying for a certain number of rooms. You may want to get in touch with the Hilton corporate office to see if this is something that can be worked out.

That sounds weird. I also have my hotel black at a Hampton Inn in Jersey and we didn't have to do that. We didn't even have to put down a credit card for our room. They even give us a honeymoon package in our suite and cover the charge for the night because we did a block.

I had a holiday tell us that was how the would reserve rooms for us.

When we inquired with them they said "we do not do room blocks over the summer between may 31st through labor day" The manager then offered that if we wanted to reserve rooms under our credit card he would hold the room on our card and the guests would pay when they leave. Essentially a reservation but using just our card to hold, and then people only pay when they checked out. But not an official block.

We aren't going to be using them becaue 1. their rates where too high and 2. We do not want to reserve so many rooms on our card.

First, I will say that I do NOT think room blocks are necessary. Most people know how to book a hotel room, and can find something that fits their budget within a certain distance of your venue.

Second, depending on where you live, NYE is a huge deal and brings people in from out of town to celebrate with family. If this was really important to you, it probably would have been a better idea to think about this a few months ago, rather than only 2 months before your wedding, because at this point, your options may be severely limited as to whats even available to be blocked off.

Good luck, hope you are able to figure out something that works out, without having to pay for everything yourself!
