So we're having our reception at a certain hotel in the Atl area so we figured that it only made sense for us to have our guests stay at that hotel. Well while discussing this with their manager, we were told that they would hold x # of rooms for us and if our guests did not consume those rooms that we would have to pay for them. Is this normal?? I have done other hotel contracts in my line of work have never encountered this, albeit for business. I'm going to fight this more, but I wanted to know if others had encountered something similar with room blocks.

We did this route and it's VERY stressful. I wish we hadn't now but the hotel did suggest we book much fewer rooms than we think we'd need. So we requested 20 rooms for the weekend (which really equals 40 nights). I think maybe 15 nights so far have been booked. We are still 4 months out but it's nerve wracking to say the least. This is also in Atlanta and the only large hotel with the amenities we were looking for (hot breakfast, room for a welcome party, etc). But..yea...nerve wracking. Don't go this route if you can help it OR block maybe half the rooms you'll think you'll need. Be VERY conservative.
