Hotel Problem- Vent and HELP!!!!

Stephanie, on February 22, 2017 at 8:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hello all!

So i had my tasting tonight at my venue (food was delicious!) and my coordinator showed me my room block is already full (venue is a hotel)...My future mother in law told her entire side of the family that they could make a reservation even though i specifically told her that I was only telling immediately family and wedding party about the block...Well, my wedding is on an incredibly busy weekend...US Open...and of course my venue is 15 minutes away from where the golf tournament is happening.. The only person on my side of the family that has a room in our 20 room block is my grandmother...so needless to say I'm a little angry. Now I need to find a place to put my wedding party and other out of town guests. I have started calling other hotels in the area to try and make arrangements and will hopefully hear back within the next couple of days. Im just SO upset and angry about all this!

Try talking to the venue... One of the hotels that I have an agreement with said that if the block filled up, we could discuss including more rooms in the block.

Is the entire hotel sold out? Usually they can add more rooms to the block.

I'm sorry this happened, but honestly, I feel like you're in the wrong here. All wedding guests should have been provided the same information regarding lodging and if you thought it would be a problem, you should have changed the date or venue of your wedding. At this point, you need to call the hotel and ask for more rooms.

My hotel added rooms to the block until the block rate ended. People could still book at the hotel just not under the block rate. Call the hotel and see if they are sold out.

Unfortunately, due to the weekend it is they have very few rooms available. The rooms they do have are $299 a night with a minimum of a 3 night stay. I already spoke to the hotelSmiley sad

I'm shocked that your block is full already. Most people don't call this far ahead.

I have to go with Pp's here, if your guests waited it's their fault they didn't book a room.

They didn't tell you this was US Open weekend when you originally booked? Is this in your hometown or a destination location? If it's hometown, most local people probably won't need a hotel. How many OOT guests will be displaced and how close is the nearest town that isn't booked?

Try reservations.com to set up a group discount rate for the wedding kind of like hotels.com or booking.com. I have been pleasantly suprised with the range of hotels and prices so my guest aren't locked into a hotel I choose

Brittany- if the hotels are almost sold out or they know it's a busy weekend, the may not accept group rates through a 3rd party. It's best to deal with the hotel directly. You'll get the best rate because they don't have to pay commission

Geez that sucks. The day after we booked, the city we're doing ours in announced a concert. Our hotel still has openings but they could run out any moment and the prices are insane. AIRBNB has been a lifesaver for us. Try that and VRBO Smiley smile It's honestly cheaper and you can do your own food.

Stephanie- I work in hotel sales. Booking.com and third party sites are not the way to go. Many times it won't even save you money.

But don't take my word for it.

I just used skipper to block for my wedding. Put in area you're getting married (aka city or venue) number and type of rooms needed, and date for the block. You can select hotels that are close and if they have openings you can "add" them and it sends a request. They will get back to you with whether they have availablity to accommodate your block and general details (price, rooms available, etc.). You can then either accept their offer or decline. Website also gives you a specific advisor you can reach out too with additional questions! Might just be good in case you're missing any surrounding hotels you hadn't thought of and reduces hassle of having to call multiple hotels. Everything in one place. good luck!

Many hotels won't work with skipper. Ours doesn't. We have to pay commission so we either don't work with them or charge the guests more money to make up for the commission.

    JUST CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY!!

It's like ignoring a florist advice on a flower thread yeesh.

LG- hey if they want their guests to pay more power to them. Or get screwed with a third party reservation that's none of my business lol
