Hotel Minimum Food and Beverage charge AND paying tax on Service Charge

Natalia1946, on June 4, 2009 at 8:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Is it normal for hotels to have a minimum food and beverage charge? Can you get around it?

Also, the hotel where we are looking to host our wedding charges sales tax on the food and beverage stuff, but also on the ceremony fee, and even the service charge- tips etc.. Is that normal?

Thanks!

Everything seems like my contract except the tax of the tip... I have seen the minimum charge and I stayed away from those because you never know your guest count.

I think that's normal if you're looking for a venue that includes food and servers. The only thing our venue doesn't include are the centerpieces!

When we were looking for our venue every single place we went to had a minimum to meet! Thank goodness the venue we fell in love with was within our budget. Tax and Tip are something you don't count on but they sure add up!

I found our venue on herecomestheguide.com It's a wonderful website... it gives you details about all the venues.

Hi, are reception & ceremony venues are doing exactly what you are saying, its an automatic 18% gratutity charge plus that's taxed I thought it was illegal to charge tax on tips, so i looked it up on our states website & it's not.. I was really upset it added almost $2K to the balance, i don't feel you should have to pay that much tip before you even get the service, grr.. but good luck with planning & finding a venue w/in your budgetSmiley smile
