Hotel Blocks

Elizabeth, on May 22, 2019 at 7:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Ok so my reception is at a hotel ($175-225 a night with waterpark admission included). I'm looking for cheaper options in the area for people who don't want to pay that or take advantage of the waterpark. Everywhere in the area is telling me I need to put the block on my credit card and be reimbursed by the guest personally. Does this sound right? How do I get around paying for 30 hotel rooms myself? TIA!

Ask if the hotels offer courtesy blocks, not all hotels do. If they don’t then let guests figure out accommodations on their own.

Our hotel didn't offer a courtesy block, but I didn't have to put down a credit card. I did sign a contract saying I would pay for half if we didn't fill 50%.

So I’m doing a DW and had to put a deposit down for all of the rooms I blocked off. I put down a deposit of $100 per room but whenever a room is booked that deposit I put down goes towards our room.

    Hi Elizabeth!

This isn't unheard of, however, it isn't the standard.

I would advise you to call around a few hotels and ask their policies. Many hotels won't make you put any money down upfront. It may be best to find somewhere where the guests pay the hotel directly for their rooms!

Are you staying at the hotel where your reception is also?

I am staying there, yes, as are most of the guests with kids. I wanted to offer a cheaper option though for those without kids who wouldn't be using the waterpark. Our venue hotel was very cooperative allowing us to block rooms but it's the other local hotels that I'm having trouble with.

No, that doesn't sound right. Most hotel chains will do a complimentary block and they just book online and pay themselves, you aren't responsible for anything.
