Hotel Blocks-how many hotels to book at

Annie, on July 13, 2017 at 11:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

My wedding is occurring at a vineyard in Charlottesville, VA in October 2018. I'm starting to look into blocking off rooms, and just wondering how many hotels are you blocking off rooms at. The one bid I received only has 10 rooms available, so I'm forced to look at other hotels too. It's a super busy time of year with weddings, and football so I just don't know how many hotels I should look into booking at with approx. 80-100 guests coming. Thanks for your responses Smiley smile

I ended up having 3 blocks. One of the hotels had the max amount of blocked room for another wedding- so I reserve/block the room w my CC on hold (cancel before I got charged). It's okay for guest to be in separate hotels, its all dependent on availability. I suggest to start calling now to make sure you can get at least 40-50 rooms blocked.

I would hold 20 rooms at another hotel and that should be plenty for your guest count unless it is a destination wedding.

Charlottesville is beautiful in October, great choice! I definitely recommend blocking rooms at 3 hotels since prices here can vary between sites. It will give your guests options.

I think it depends on how many of your guests are OOT, but I'd recommend blocking off at least 2 hotels. We blocked off one expensive hotel downtown and one more reasonably-priced one close to the airport because we knew we'd have guests that would splurge and some that would prefer the cheaper one. I think it's nice to give your guests options regardless of whether or not one hotel is able to accommodate all your guests.

I only booked one room block, and offered links to other hotels but did not do a room block.

If it's a popular time in that area, I'd block 2 or more

All my guests will be out town. My FH and I are from the Philadelphia area, which is 5 hours north of Charlottesville. So I want to make sure I have enough rooms to accommodate everyone.

Majority of our guests are OOT or have to travel about an hour so we are planning on doing 2-3 in varying price ranges.

Really depends on the travel time/amount of out of town guests. Offering at least two in different price ranges is a safe bet

It depends on how close hotels are to your venue. There is only 1 hotel close to mine as it is in a residential area and they said they dint do blocks since they are ALWAYS booked. So we called other hotels that were 20 miles away and those were the next closest. We never decided, it was all too far away. FH called the closest hotel again and they gave us a block. We got 25 rooms for Friday and Saturday. Our wedding is on a Saturday. There are about 45 invites that will need a hotel. But we were told as long as rooms are available they will get the discount.

I'd look for a hotel that gives you more rooms. Then your guests aren't as divided

I just saw your wedding date, its almost exactly a year after mine. I called this time of year last year and they had no idea of prices to give me. So if you don't get the answers what you want, I'd wait until early 2018
