Hot chocolate bar...thoughts?

Laura, on February 17, 2015 at 9:19 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

So I got a quote from a lady who does hot chocolate and gourmet marshmallows. For about 450.00 I can get a hot chocolate bar that includes all the cups/straws, my chice of 7 marshmallow flavors, hot chocolate, whipped cream, salted caramel sauce, butterscotch and chocolate sauce. They will also do a smore's bar with roasters on site. This sounds so fun to me! But I'm not sure if a lot of people would use it? I plan on providing a few bottles of liquor for people to spike it if I do this Smiley winking She also mentioned that she could make some coffee infused hot chocolates for people who wanted the extra caffeine boost.

FH thinks it would be good for the kids (though I don't think we'll have as many kids in actual attendance as he thinks. I'm thinking 10 or less). He also likes the idea for his family, none of whom drink alcohol. In Oklahoma the weather on Oct. 17th could be warm, almost hot or it could be rainy and cold. There's no telling until the week of.

What do you ladies think?

I love this idea! We're thinking of doing an apple cider bar, but kind of just creating it ourselves.

I should add that her marshmallow's are hand made, very large and very yummy and I'm not a big marshmallow fan, but I did like the 2 flavors I tried at another event.

^^ LMAO, Rosie is a fan!

I just think it would be something different and fun, but I'd be pretty pissed if no one used it lol. I'd be sad about the money as well as feel bad for the vendor that they are standing there all night with their handmade product and no one is interested. My cousin had a very expensive, fancy wedding in Charleston and had a crepe maker at the reception. I didn't see one person go to that station the entire night. I felt so bad for the lady.

I think it could definitely be too warm for cocoa on that day. It sounds good but be prepared that people won't utilize it as much if it is too hot outside.

Also, if we could get some of that today in my office I would appreciate it! Lol.

I like it but It would be depending on the weather, My wedding is in South GA in April, there is a chance it could be 90, or 60... lol.. to me OCt is fall, so I would say go for it... the price would throw me off, might be a good price for your area, but seems high to me...

I think this sounds like an incredible idea! I would be all about it as a guest, and I think the unique-ness will be really intriguing to people as well. I might have to borrow this idea for an engagement party I'm helping to plan Smiley winking

I would LOVE it! In fact, I want to do this but I don't think we have it left in our budget, but def still keeping the idea a consideration.

FH & don't drink alcohol, & would prefer a hot chocolate or coffee bar, unfortunately we are the minority lol.

I love the hot chocolate bar. We had one at our wedding, but just store bought peppermint sticks, marshmallows, syrups and whip cream. It was a balmy (for Montana) 60 degrees out and the hot chocolate bar was still a huge success. Also lots of people enjoyed adding treats to their coffee.

I thought about doing it for my winter wedding, but I decided against it for a variety of reasons. It seems messy. I also don't want it to turn into like a "holiday party" type of deal. It's my wedding, you know? We always do hot cocoa bars at holiday get togethers, so I didn't want to give that kind of a feel. I also wondered about how many people would actually use it.

That being said, you know your crowd! I think it's a really cute idea if you can pull it off. Smiley smile

So if I did this and expect around 100 people, I was thinking about getting enough for say 75 people? I know not everyone will use it.

I would drink from this all night long! Seriously regretting my wedding being in the summer otherwise this would totally happen at ours.

So I'm in the minority here, but I did a low end version of this at a holiday party and it was a flop. My friends and family just want to drink and party. Hot chocolate and beer don't mix well.
