How far in advance did you ask someone to be a host/hostess?

How many are you having?

My fiance proposed June 2009 and I asked in August. I chose 3 of my former dancers that I taught in college. I can't wait!

No sure when really, But my guess would be as soon as possible. I believe they need to know key details about the wedding, so if i'm right then I would try to include them as soon as possible.

Okay, this may be a silly question, but what is a host/hostess for a wedding? I've never heard of that.

We asked Todd's mom like three days in! We knew we wanted something small cozy and comfy and also affordable! We also knew that Todd's mom's home was perfect! and has the space for the 150 folks coming... She was tickled pink and seems more excited than me!

@ purple & dragonfly, the host/hostess does certain things the bride can't pay attention to like seating guests at reception, help serve food is necessary, cut the cake. Things like that.

Mary R.-Thanks for the clarifying that. That is just not a common practice where I'm from.

A Host/Hostess for a wedding is the same as a Host/Hostess for a restaurant. It is usually a married couple, though can also just be a couple who is dating, and there are usually two sets - one for the groom, one for the bride. Prior to the wedding they are expected to attend any showers or parties for the engaged couple. On the wedding day, they are expected to wear something nice that coordinates with the bridal party. they receive either a corsage or bout. of the wedding flower colours.

Before the ceremony, the Host/Hostess greet guests and help them find their seats. Same at the Reception, they are also to point guests towards the gift table and also the guestbook table. (If there are photobooths or candy buffet or whatever, they are supposed to give information to guests about this when they greet the guest) Once the bride and groom arrive for their grand entrance, the Host/Hostess has the duty of informing the DJ, then they are done for the night and can kick back and have fun
