Hostess at your wedding?

STBMsMullings, on August 12, 2013 at 10:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Okay this may be something I don't even have to worry about but I've heard of people having hosts at their wedding. Is this normally your planner or coordinator? I thought maybe they handle back-end work. Anyways I have a cousin who I am close with but I did not ask her to be a bridesmaid (and for those who will ask) I had a list of people and she was #8 but I only have 7. Anywho I was going to ask her to be a host, she's really good at stuff like that and that way she'll still feel like she is a part of it.

I have NOT made any decisions yet I am only asking for advice. Thanks and Happy Planning.

I plan on having a DOC (day of coordinator). Is that what you mean?

What's the point of the host/hostess? (I'm asking because this is the first I've heard of it).

I know ushers escort people to their seats at the ceremony. I know that sometimes a friend is in charge of the guestbook/presents table.

So what is the role/responsibility of the host/hostess?

I guess that's what I'm asking does that person pretty much host? I read that hostess helps to seat people at the reception, pass out programs, etc. That may be DOC duties hunh?

I had an aunt and SIL act as "hostesses". They helped out with odds and ends on the day of, assisting w pics. pinning bouts, handing programs and some of the cleanup. They were awsome. I didn't have BP, so they were VERY helpful!

Erica sounds like that's basically an usher just anther title. I guess it also depends on where your getting married too cause ushers would be in the church but host/hostess is somewhere else. And yes they would man the guestbook/present table, etc. Same thing.

Okay Trisha that's what I mean a person like that to do those duties. All of my BM's want to be surprised at my dress so I figured my host could assist me as I get dressed too.

The last wedding reception I was at had a hostess (mom and sister). They greeted guests, and told them about hors d'orbous (sp), etc. It was a destination wedding with the reception on a different day back home so no bridal party (that's why mom and sister were able to act as hostesses)

One of my good friends is busy pursuing her nursing degree and politely declined to be a Bridesmaid. So I asked her if she wanted to still be involved, if she would hand out the programs before the ceremony and if she would direct people to their escort cards afterwards. She was thrilled and I'm putting her in the program as Wedding Hostess and she's getting a dress that color coordinates with the wedding party.

@Ashley, yes I have hostess this will free up much needed time for the DOC/Planner. I'm going to have one make sure the guest dont forget to sign in my guest book. One will gather all the gifts and take them to their area, another one will ensure the guest are seated correctly like not taking up an entire row with purses etc lol. If they are busy doing that the DOC/Planner can make sure to cater to your personal needs and the needs of the party pre wedding. Also making sure the food is being prepared and on time and vendors know where to go and are paid. This also gives those who you dont have room for as a BM to be in the wedding without throwing shade ;-)

I am having a host family and they will be there to ask questions, show people where their cabins are and they will tell each table when to go to the buffet line.
