"Hosted" bar?

L.I. CatLady, on August 23, 2011 at 6:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

What is a "hosted" bar? is it the same as an open bar?

This may seem like an obvious question, but I just wanted to check with the experts on WW before I proceed to assume.

Thanks everyone!!!

Yes, a hosted bar means the bride and groom host it for the guests. Smiley laugh, hope this helps! happy planning!

The main difference, I think, is that "hosted" means the bride and groom pay the tab at the end of the night, whereas with "open" they pay a set amount per person before the wedding. The guests see no difference, the main difference is to the bride and groom.

Thanks so much.... I'm thinking that can get very dangerous if I have a lot of drinkers attending. Has anyone had any experience with a host/consumption bar??

The only thing I can really contribute is that prepaid-per-person is a lot safer than price-per-consumption. Hotels and caterers can get really shady adding bottles at the end of the night with no real proof that it was *your* guests that consumed it all.

"Hosted" can refer to a full open bar or to a more limited bar (e.g., only beer and wine). It just means that the bride and groom pay for it (i.e., the opposite of a cash bar).
