Hosted bar budget

Sarah, on June 14, 2016 at 8:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Me and my fiance plan to do a hosted bar including wine, beer, liquor and would like to have a signature drink. I'm trying to figure the alcohal cost into my budget but im struggling. We plan to have 150 people. What's a good website to help with calculating cost?

Check out the budget tool on WW. If you put in your total budget it will estimate how much you should spend on beverages.

I tried the budget tool but it said we should be spending about $1500 on drinks and i wasnt sure if that was right so I wanted to find a calculator tool just to double check Smiley smile

I'm pretty sure the budget tool just breaks off what percentage of your budget they think you should spend. I spent more than WW thought I should because my overall budget was lower. That being said, each bar will be different. I did mine pretty equally among the beer, wine, and liquor but some people know their family and friends drink way more beer or wine etc.

I had family friends coming that apparently only drink Jim beam so I bought that plus I still bought jack Daniels.

Is the 150 total all adults?

No. I figure only about 90 people will drink.

I had a small guest list (50-60) we know our guests pretty well. None of the adults (patents age I mean) will drink at all. Both parents are against it & so are their friends. My friends will drink mostly wine/sangria & FH's friends will all want beer. We also know our friends well enough to know about how much each person will drink Having such a small guest list helps with budgeting alcohol!

Are you buying the alcohol yourself, or having a hosted bar at the venue with alcohol they provide? If the former, I'd talk to your bartender or local liquor store to see what they recommend, and see if the store you purchase it from will refund you after the fact for anything that is unopened.

If the latter, talk to your venue and ask for an estimate for your expected guest list. They should have a pretty good gauge on how much you actually need.

I had asked a similar question a little while ago and I think the website someone gave me was weddingalcoholcalculator.com, but I would need to double check...and I'm on mobile right now, so I'll have to wait until later today to find that thread.

I also made tweaks to mine. I know that our friends are primarily beer drinkers and most of the family is too, and then I am doing wine, but adding a few more (as in a whole case extra) so I can bring it home from my favorite winery.

What I've been reading two drink per adult during cocktail hour then a drink for each hour of the reception then add a buffer. Again it depends on your guest you know them better

We had a budget of $3000. After that it was cash bar. We had 158. It lasted until 10? Maybe 1030? I liked how it worked out. Nobody got too drunk or anything.

Do you have a venue yet? Are you paying pp or per drink? All levels or liquor or just well drinks? A lot goes into it. Ours is pp per hour so I know up front what I'm paying.
