Horse drawn carriage

Ruggero To Be, on January 5, 2016 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 29

Opinions on a horse drawn carriage. I feel like it would be really romantic. I am getting married in January in Michigan but even in the snow I think it would be a fairytale.

My only opinion is I have Major concerns about how the horses are treated by some companies, so please do your research.

IMO it's a waste of money and keep in mind that horses poop while they trot.

The welfare of the horses is something I will forsure look into before booking anything! I haven't even looked into any companies yet. Just a sort of dream of mine and I was wondering if anyone had done it or thought of doing it.

My parents did this at their wedding as a send off. If you really want it, go for it. Just be sure to consider everything that goes into the decision (poop, where the animals will stay, cost, length of travel, etc)

If I do it, it would only be between the ceromony and reception. I didn't even think about the pooping! So many things to think about

I've actually seen a lot of parade and carriage horses that have these little (sorry for the terminology) sacks that get hung under their tail to catch poop. Attractive, I know, but they usually blend in and are hardly noticeable. The poop thing shouldn't be an issue if they use these.

Yes, until they genetically engineer the DNA out of them, horses do poop.

We got married on a farm with horses so it came included in the package.

    1. Romantic and the pictures were lovely

    2. It was fucking impossible to get in/out of in my wedding dress. Like awkward times 100. Husband like threw me in and I flopped and rolled kind of to get in

    3. It was free so why not

Carriage rides are cold. Especially in Michigan in January.

Unless you're riding in a sulky behind a racing horse-going at top speed- poop is not that big of an issue- unless the horse has explosive diarrhea it shouldn't be an issue. yes they have poop catchers- but that's typically a down issue- not a back issue (that way they don't have someone shoveling behind) Also- said bags not cute- not sexy- not clean. They are icky. and probably not good in pictures and if you aren't in a big city area- they might not have them- unsure- check.

it's more of an issue for convenience (dress) and again- ethical treatment of animals.

I wish I could do this, but I think my FH would put his foot down. Mostly because I'd probably spend more time cooing over the horse and not him. LOL Or asking if I could sit up front and learn how to drive. LOL

I wanted to do this for my wedding.. until I called around in San Antonio. I needed 2 carriages which were a flat rate of $350 each!!! They said that wedding prices were flat rate no matter what... and they would give free chocolates LOL. My hotel was a 10 minute walk from my wedding venue. $700 for a horse carriage ride that was under 10 minutes long? ahhh..NO. That made my decision! I don't know what it would be like for you, but I was floored. People often try to make as much as they can off of weddings!

Also, when I went looking at the carriages, the floors were quite dirty and I wouldn't want to get in with my wedding dress anyway and chance getting it dirty before the ceremony. I was happy with my limo! Smiley laugh

I had the choice at my venue between a horse drawn carriage or a classic old car. I chose the horses, seemed to go better with my personality and I couldn't care less about cars! Smiley smile

I'd love to go to the venue by horse carriage. If you make sure the horses are treated well by the company, I'd say go for it. And on a side note, horses can stay outside in the cold, they are not made of paper. That is, as long as they are allowed to keep their winter fur or they are covered with a blanket and are not sweaty.

Serious question. Have you been to Michigan in January? Why pay to have yourself (and the horses) suffer? I'm fully against this idea. This is real life, not a fairy tale.

Emily's description of getting in the carriage in her dress literally made me LOL. I'm actually surprised we don't see this question more often. It's not something I'd want to pay for, but if it's a big part of your vision and you can find an ethical vendor, go for it!

I'm not a fan. I feel like it's one of those things that you think is going to be romantic. But in reality, you freeze your face off.

And I also wouldn't do it because around me, they are known for animal cruelty.
