Hors d'oeuvres Spelling

Melissa, on January 28, 2015 at 3:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

So my FFIL is making all of our invitations for us and had them printed and picked them up today. He then realized he misspelled hors d'oeuvres. He spelled it hors d'ouevres. Honestly, I don't think anyone will notice this. He said he would have them all reprinted, but I don't want him to have to pay for that. What do y'all think? Reprint? It's not like someone would look at the invitation and be like "wtf are these?!"

I'm a grammar nazi, and speak french, and I still wouldn't notice.

That's what I sort of thought too. I proofed it, FH proofed it, the wedding planner proofed it, and we all missed it. And I've edited four books and I missed it lol.

I had to seriously focus on both spellings. No one will notice or care because most people do not how to spell it anyway.

No one will notice; most of them don't know how to spell it either.

I just texted FFIL to tell him I really didn't care and not to worry about it. He said they're already printing and he insists they have to be correct because he feels terrible he misspelled it. Which is very nice of him, but I'm really not that worried lol. I told him I didn't want him to pay all that extra, especially since he's doing all this for free, but I guess I sort of understand since he is in advertising/graphic design and wouldn't want someone to think he can't spell.

I saw this post title and thought "AHA! That's how you spell it!" so no, I don't think you should reprint.

Keep it. No one knows how to spell it and no one certainly is confident enough to call you out on it lol.

When I read this, my first thought was "I don't see the problem". It really took me a second.

This word is the worst...I used "tapas" or "appetizers" if I have to write it out lol! The other one that always gets me is boutonniere (even now I had to let spell check get it). It's nice he decided to re-print, but I wouldn't have noticed.

Too bad itʻs not a Hawaiian wedding, spelling pupus is easy.

I had to re-read your post like 3 times just to tell the difference between the correct and incorrect spelling. I don't think anyone will notice!!
