Horrible Wedding Photos 😭

We got our wedding photos back today. They were taken from random angles (mostly like he was squatting and facing upwards) so even my incredibly fit husband looks like he has 7 chins. There were barely any from my shotlist (I literally only had 4 specific photos requested) and for our sparkler sendoff he used a flash so they look completely ridiculous! I have so many photos of some random child that isn’t ours, at least 200 candids of people mid-sentence, mid-bite, or of the decor, and only a handful (less than 15) of my husband and I. Of those 15, only 3 are from an angle that are actually flattering, most are taken from that ground-up angle. Our ceremony photos are from super awkward angles and he didn’t get ONE photo of anybody smiling as they walked down the aisle - most are looking down or away and all are from the same position so it looks like you’re looking at the people from outside a fish bowl. Our cake cutting photos are truly just hideous. I am honestly so disappointed. Even my very easygoing husband was surprised at how bad the photos were. We paid $1200 for 5 hours and an engagement shoot. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we didn’t even have an engagement shoot. I truly don’t even know what to do. A friend has offered to take bridals now that we are back from our honeymoon. But to me, that’s so different from the actual day of. He had such amazing reviews here and elsewhere online and the photos on his website were beautiful. How could ours turn out so awful?

Oh no. I'm so sorry.
Maybe the photos weren't his own?
Maybe his reviews were purchased?
Maybe he just didn't care.
I'm so sorry this happened to you.
I'd suggest leaving a review. But maybe take a couple days to let it settle and form before you do it.
I know that your friend taking photos wont be the same. But it might be a small silver lining when you look back?

Oh my goodness that sounds horrifying 😱 Definitely leave a review here. Did he have a lot of good reviews?
I would also ask for partial refund, especially if he didn’t take photos you requested, if you have only 15 photos of two of you & if his photos are that different from what was advertised.
And definitely take bridal photos with your friend. You can take some with your hubby too & all details shots. I think it will be so worth it!

This just brought tears to my eyes I’m so so sorry this happened to you ... tht is horrible I will request half or all my money back or take them to small claims court .. I’m sorry 😢☹️😡

Oh my goodness I’m so sorry this happened to you... I would be pissed off as well.. I would contact him and tell him you aren’t happy with the pictures he has taken for your wedding... maybe he will refund you part of your money for his mistakes.

I'm so sorry, that sounds like a nightmare! Definitely review to let other brides know, but I think doing bridals will at least help ease some of that a little, at least you'll have some good photos.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you! I would be so ticked if all of our photos were bad! I can understand your frustration somewhat since somehow we went the whole wedding day and didn't take a single photo of just me and my husband. We also didn't get any pictures of anyone walking down the aisle except me.
I would definitely contact him and Express your disappointment and see if he'll refund you at least some of it. If not, I'd leave a bad review!

I'm so sorry! We had a similar experience with engagement pictures and I was so upset! I can't imagine how I'd feel if it had been the wedding photos. I'd definitely express your displeasure and see if you can get a discount. And even though it's not the same, I'd totally do bridals with another photographer. I'd see if your parents can be there, even, to get some nice photos with them if you want.

I agree with everyone. I would reach out to the photographer and explain your concerns with the photos. If he does not offer to make it right or give you a refund I would escalate it. Either way, I would post a review for others to know that this happened to hopefully prevent others from having to go through this. I hope you can get this addressed and obtain some photos that highlight your love for one another.

I'm so sorry to read this Jenna. I definitely would reach out to him and let him know how terribly disappointed you are. Agree with others about doing the bridals so you have some good photos to look back on ❤️

Are you sure he sent you all of the photos, or were those just a really large sneak peek? I know you said he sent you over 200, but we got over 1000 digitals from our photographer. 200 doesn't seem like very many pictures.

That’s very unfortunate. Sadly, digital has made too many people like they’re photographers. But everyone with a camera and a website isn’t a skilled photographer.

Oh no! I'm devastated for you!
We just had our engagement session today...so we will get to see our photographers work, just in case. I just have no clue what I would do in your shoes.

I would take your friend up on the recreation photos that will help .

I would reach out to him on the off chance he may not have sent all of your pictures...or perhaps he sent the rejects by mistake(hopefully🤞)

I am so sorry that happened to you!

My parents’ wedding photos turned out horribly... a few weeks after their honeymoon my dad rented his tux again and my mom got her hair done and put on her dress, they hired a new photographer to take photos of the two of them dressed up... those pictures turned out INCREDIBLE. My mom said it was really nice actually because they were very stressed and rushed throughout their wedding day so a lot of their smiles and poses were forced anyway. Having their “wedding photos” taken a few weeks later (while annoying, and expensive 🙄) actually gave them the whole afternoon to just relax and enjoy the photo shoot.

Maybe consider a do-over with another photographer?

I’m so sorry. Hopefully you can learn to love them? It would be great if you allowed us to see some of them might remind people to be more careful about their photographer. I would definitely ask for a partial refund especially since you didn’t take the engagement shoot

Thank you all for your suggestions and support! He has won the Wedding Wire Couples Choice for the last 6 years in my area and has all 5 star google reviews. I have no idea why ours were nowhere near what the ones in his portfolio look like and why they don’t look at all like what other members have posted. I was surprised when we got our edited photos back within the week. I think we will redo our couple photos, especially because he didn’t bring any equipment or lighting besides his on camera flash and didn’t direct us into any poses or give any direction on what to do. My biggest disappointment outside of such few photos as a couple is that the entire remainder of the shots were candid. I don’t even have photos with my family (like me and my mom or sisters or dad) and neither does my fiancé. Candids are nice, but none of his captured emotion or even my fiancé and I interacting with friends - like why would I ever want a picture of the drinks server? Or the back of my mother in laws head? Or me mid bite of dinner? The shots are what I’d expect from a bunch of kids fooling around with disposable cameras. I wish I’d had my phone with me so we could have at least gotten selfies throughout the night with the people who came 😂

That's horrible! Have you tried contacting him and explaining how upset you are? Surely there must be some mistake, I agree that typically people get closer to 1000 photos of their wedding day and not within a week! Hopefully there was a mix up and if not then definitely ask for a partial if not full refund!
