Hoop Skirt Issues, any ideas?

Kathryn, on August 5, 2015 at 10:28 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

The main reason I bought the dress I did was for the hoop. I got sick of trying dresses on with crinoline that stuck to my legs. It was nice to have it nice and airy under the dress.

So we ended up getting married early due to my father's health. We are still having our planned wedding next month but it will be a vow renewal instead. I got the dress from the salon in April and it was a little short, I am 6' tall so we kind of expected that. Our plan was to remove some of the hoop so it would be a little longer. The first picture is me at the salon, you cant tell it is too short but it was off the ground about 4 inches.

We removed some of the hoop after getting the dress and it seemed pretty ok, especially since the wedding would be in grass. We didn’t want it too long and dragging in the grass. I was looking through all the pictures we had taken in May and saw that when I was in a group photo that my dress was getting pressed against and my feet were hanging out. In the picture of me solo you can see it is still a tad short but it doesn’t look too bad. I don’t like how it looks still but it is better.

Has anyone had a hoop? Did you have the issue in photos where people were c lose to you and this caused your hoop to move and look weird. I was thinking of just removing the hoop all together so this wasn’t an issue but it really is the reason I bought the dress. Any ideas or thoughts?

I get a chance to redo this so I want it to look right this time. Should I just suck it up and remove the hoop?

    Thanks!

ETA: here is the model in the dress, I dont think she has the hoop in so you can see how it would look.

Totally, totally feel your pain on this one, fellow six-footer. Smiley winking

Maybe other wiser brides will have better advice, but if I were in your shoes (which ironically...I am lol), I'm afraid I'd just ditch the hoop. The skirt is still poofy and I don't think it'll stick to your legs much--my dress is similar, actually. Have you tried it on without the hoop?

Thanks Randi! I have not tried it on without the hoop yet. It is at the dry cleaners until the end of August. The cleaner is not putting the hoop back in after she took it out to clean so I will be able to see right away what it will look like. I am sure it will be fine, I was just super excited about the hoop.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I get that. Smiley sad I got very excited about hoops too but quickly had to let that dream die myself. But then the dress I got surprised me with being almost hoop-like with its shape, and I fell in love. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised! Keep us updated?

Oh I will Smiley smile Thank you for your encouragement! I did get to wear the hoop for one wedding at least. It looked goofy but don't always get 2 chances to wear it!

I don't think it looked goofy! But I get how it would bother you. It would bother me too since I deal with the same stuff. But you're right, you did get to wear it once. Smiley smile And Janeen is also 6 feet tall...haven't seen her around today but maybe she will pop on with a better solution. Good luck!

I just purchased this dress. I personally like it with out the hoop. I was wondering how it felt with out it? was it uncomfortable? hot or stickey?

I did end up using a few of the hoops, but they were the smaller ones so it didn't make the skirt too big. I never tried it without the hoop so I can't say much to that but it was very comfortable the whole night with the hoops in.
