Honorary Bridesmaids

ThenewMrs.Ruffin, on March 21, 2012 at 11:45 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I will be having 2 honorary bridesmaids for my wedding-my sis-n-law(who's much older than me) and my future sis-n-law(who was supposed to be a regular bridesmaid but dropped out). I have purchased corsages for them and their names will be printed in program as honorary but my question is do they have to be escorted in during ceremony or can they just be seated normally? Is their any other way to honor them?

I have never heard of a honorary bridesmaid.

In many wedding ceremonies where there are honorary bridesmaids, the honorary bridesmaids will be escorted to their seats by the usher/groomsmen just prior to the immediate family being escorted to their seats, so they become part of the processional, but not part of the actual bridal party.

Jola - an honorary bridesmaid is a person who is asked to do certain tasks to help in the wedding planning but is not actually a bridesmaid who is in the wedding party. the honorary bridesmaid is mentioned in the wedding program and may be seated in the front pews near or with the family, and is normally given a corsage to wear during the wedding ceremony and reception, but is not one of the bridemaids who stands up with the bride. she is not required to wear the wedding party attire, although some are asked to get dresses in the same color scheme as the wedding party.

Thanks for the explaination MekMek, I didn't know either. Considering the thought behind it, that's a good idea for FH's 3 sisters who aren't in the wedding.

I donno, something about the honorary bridesmaids kinda is off putting to me. If someone asked me to be an honorary bridesmaid, rather then just a bridesmaid, i think i would be rather insulted...but if everyone is comfortable with that! more power to you! : )

@JETAUN, no offense but I feel like you are really mad or don't know where your Caps Lock key is. Sorry to be picky but it really is stressful to look at all caps. :/

Thanks for feedback ladies. I'm really finding that with weddings, its really about what the couple (read the BRIDE) wants.

@Brianna...I think its an honor to be asked to do anything in someone's wedding. But you're right some people might take offense to it. Good thing my 2 ladies didin't.

@Jetaun...I think that is an awesome idea.

I am having my close group of college friends as my honorary bridesmaids in additional to my 5 bridesmaids because i didnt want to have a 15 woman bridal party and didn't want to choose just one or two. they were all honored to be included. thinking of having them walk in with the groomsmen and sit in the second row. they will all be wearing the same dress that goes with the color scheme. the one thing i am wondering is if they have to carry flowers ( i honestly just dont want to spend the $ on 8 more bouquets)- thanks!
