Honeymoon (without the Hurricanes)

OldSchoolKindaLove, on April 24, 2018 at 9:17 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

Where are the best locations to go in October? My wedding is in late September and we are looking at taking our honeymoon the first week in October. I get motion sick in the car, so a cruise is out. I would love somewhere tropical, but still adventurous. I would love Hawaii, but it's out of the budget. I am looking to spend maybe $3,500. I also know the Caribbean would be nice, but hurricane season really puts a damper on things. I appreciate the help.

Aruba is gorgeous and out of the hurricane belt. It can be pricey depending on where you stay but I'm sure if you do enough digging you can get a good deal.

I think generally Aruba is safe from hurricanes, because of where it is located in the Caribbean it usually does not get hit! I would always recommend travel insurance in case something does happen (even if you get sick you can cancel), so you do not lose all that money!

We choose to push our honeymoon out to avoid Hurricane season, among other factors. So we are planning on going in early January.

However our Travel Agent did mention to us a couple of places that would be okay if we choose to take our honeymoon right away, including aruba and certain parts of mexico. You could always contact a travel agent and ask them what the might recommend

In addition to Aruba, there’s Curaçao, St. Lucia and Barbados. They are all near Venezuela and are usually safe from Hurricanes. However, it can be rainy at that time of year. Would you consider waiting until November? Rainy season is almost over by then but you still can get good deals before Thanksgiving. I have no idea what the weather is like in Costa Rica in October but you should check it out.

FH and I considered Aruba as well, as it's out of the hurricane belt, and our HM will be the first week of October next year as well!

Are any of these English speaking or are they all Spanish? Do you know by chance?

I just want to say that I get HORRIBLY carsick. I live near Pittsburgh now and going anywhere with my FH driving is brutal with the windy hilly roads. I've literally made him pull over so I could open the door and get sick (TMI I know).

Surprisingly I don't get seasick at all. Not that you should try it for your honeymoon, but don't completely write it off as a future trip.

I haven't written it off completely. I just know that everyone has suggested a cruise for our honeymoon, but I really don't want to chance it. I would hate to spend our entire honeymoon sick. Thanks for the help.

The “ABC islands” Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao are all clustered together and outside of the hurricane belt. We went in late August and had fantastic weather, but I know it’s not super close to October. We booked our all-inclusive vacation with Sam’s Club and saved like a $1,000 vs the cheapest listing on the Internet!

I think if you REALLY hunt and find some good deals, you could probably do a short Europe trip. My FH and I went to Spain last year and found round trip tickets for $700 ish each. That'd be about half your budget but AirBnB is a beautiful thing if you're looking to save there.

Aruba and Curacao are Dutch. St. Lucia and Barbados are British. They speak English in all of these islands. They also take US Currency.

You could do Hawaii on a budget. You just have to plan accordingly
