My husband and I recently got back from our honeymoon, and so I figured I'd share some photos and details about our adventures, just in case anyone was headed to the same places and wanted ideas of things to do!

Our initial plan in 2020 was to do 8 nights in Hawaii: 4 nights on Oahu, and 4 nights on Maui. However, we postponed our wedding and honeymoon to 2022 due to COVID, and when we went to rebook our honeymoon, the prices on Maui had gone WAY up. So, we changed up our plans a bit: 4 nights on Oahu, and then 4 nights in Costa Rica!
This post covers the Hawaii portion of the trip.
We stayed at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. At check in, our room got upgraded to an ocean front room. The view was amazing!cfb_1541435.jpg

We went to Waikiki Brewing Company for dinner and drinks, and saw a beautiful rainbow 🌈 on our walk there. Amazing food at this brewery!!cfb_1541439.jpg

The next day, we went to a cute beachfront cafe for breakfast, and then went to the Waikiki Aquarium. cfb_1541443.jpg

We intended for it to be a low-key day, since we had a long day traveling the day before, so we didn't plan any excursions or big adventures. Instead, we walked around the beach and around the town, ate dinner at Maui Brewing Company, and then watched the sunset from the beach at our hotel. I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband said that while Maui Brewing and Waikiki Brewing both had good beer, he liked the beer better at Maui Brewing.cfb_1541449.jpg

The next day, we went to Pearl Harbor, and walked through their interactive museum (which was free to visit). Very informative, and lots to read. We wanted to take the ferry over to the USS Arizona memorial, but we didn't have reservations, and the Stand By line was long, so we skipped it.cfb_1541455.jpg

We found a Groupon for surfing lessons, so we signed up! Neither of us had ever been surfing before, so we had no clue what we were getting ourselves into. They teach you the basics on land first, and then you go out into the water to try it out. This was SO FUN!! They had a photographer that joined the lesson to capture photos and videos for everyone, so these next two photos were taken by him.cfb_1541459.jpg

On our last full day on the island, we went parasailing! This was my husband's biggest request when we were initially planning out our honeymoon. I'd never been parasailing before, but willing to give it a try. It was fun! Very calm and peaceful. The view from the top was beautiful.cfb_1541463.jpg

They took photos for us that we ended up buying, so these next two photos are ones that they took for us.cfb_1541465.jpg

We ate lunch at Hank's Haute Dogs, which my husband learned about from the show Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Really good food, and an especially really good curry ketchup!!cfb_1541469.jpg

For our last dinner in Hawaii, we did a sunset dinner cruise on the Star Of Honolulu! Dinner included a salad, crab legs, beef tenderloin, BBQ chicken, and macadamia nut ice cream. A lot of food, but it was delicious! There are fireworks every Friday night in Waikiki, so we also got to see fireworks from the boat.cfb_1541471.jpg

Overall, it was a lot of fun, even though we mainly did touristy things this trip. Groupon also helped us save money on activities that we were already planning to do. Next time we visit Hawaii, we'd definitely stay in an Airbnb instead of a hotel, and also do more hiking and seeing the rest of the island.

This was my first time visiting Hawaii, and it was beautiful! Though I think the next time I go there, I'd like to see a different island. Which of the Hawaiian islands have you been to?

We went to Maui. Stayed at a condo there. Spent some time playing tennis and also went on a hiking trip. It was a long time ago though. the trip also involved a lot of relaxing.

That sounds like a fun trip! The hiking would be incredible. Maui was in our original honeymoon plan, but we had to change plans once the prices on Maui increased for our new honeymoon dates. I was surprised at how affordable Airbnbs are in Hawaii! We stayed in a resort this time, but we plan to go with a much cheaper option next time. Do you have any specific recommendations of places to visit on Maui?

I'm afraid not. I was just a passenger on the trip so just did whatever my family was doing.

We are only staying on Oahu because our trip was booked last minute. We were originally booked for Puerto Rico but when the hurricane hit we had to change plans. I am ok with just seeing the one island this time. If we love it we will go back to see the others (when we are not paying for both a wedding and honeymoon).

I was just looking at the pictures of the shoreline at night. What did you have to do for those pictures?

We only did Oahu as well. Originally, we were going to do 4 nights on Oahu and then 4 nights on Maui, but when we postponed due to COVID and had to rebook, pricing on Maui skyrocketed. So we only did Oahu (for our time in Hawaii). I highly recommend renting a car and driving around the island if you're looking for some non-touristy things to do, and to see the sights! We didn't rent a car this trip, but I wish we had an extra day there to go see other parts of the island. Waikiki was beautiful, but crowded and very touristy. What types of activities are you planning to do? Puerto Rico is also amazing, and I strongly recommend making a trip there sometime when there isn't a hurricane!

We did a sunset dinner cruise on the Star Of Honolulu! There is a hotel that sponsors fireworks every Friday night in Waikiki, and so the dinner cruise on Fridays also gets to see the fireworks from the boat. It was absolutely beautiful to see the skyline from the water.

We are going on a rum tour, a cocktail dinner cruise, a luau, the aquarium, seeing Diamond Head, USS Arizona self guided tour, a massage at the spa at our resort, and thanks to your comments I added the Pacific Star Sunset Buffet & Show for our last night. We are also getting “lei’d” at the airport 🤣😂

That all sounds amazing!! Enjoy, I'd love to hear about how Diamond Head is! The rum tour sounds fun too. My husband and I also had a lei greeting at the airport, it's a cute experience if you've never been to Hawaii before!

Pearl Harbor was quite an experience! We did not go to Lanikai beach (we mainly stayed over by Waikiki), but it looks beautiful! I will keep that in mind for the next time I travel to Hawaii.

Definitely! I would've liked to have spent more time on that side of the island.
