Honeymoon on a Budget

Kyra, on September 1, 2019 at 3:46 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
My FH and I are planning our September 2020 wedding and he does not believe we are going to be able to afford a Honeymoon. Any ideas for honeymoons that won't cost a huge sum of money? I want to surprise him but I have no clue where to start.

You don’t have to travel far from home, just pick somewhere you can drive to so you don’t have to buy airfare. Skip expensive resorts, pick a nice inn with good breakfast at a state over from yours and just take in the new sights and try the local cuisine.
Or if you’re into the outdoors there’s always camping!

We are only taking 3-4 days after the wedding and taking a trip to the mountains, it's about a 2-2 1/2 hour trip
It won't cost much at all. Then next year we plan on taking a week long trip and celebrate our 1 yr anniversary.

I’m sure there are plenty of places reasonably close to you. Perhaps there is a city a few hours away that you’ve never been to? Another way to help financially is to try to find an airBnB instead of a hotel. Many are whole places (no sharing), and are reasonably priced.

What is your budget? It is definitely possible to do a honeymoon that is affordable. Look at places within driving distance that may just be a couple hours away, and there are some really nice airbnb's that are wayyy cheaper than hotels. Doesn't have to be a long trip either, just a couple days!

I had a friend who took a minimoon to Indianapolis (we live in a small southern Indiana town) and just spent four nights at a luxurious hotel up there with her husband because she was still in school and couldn't take time off. FH and I are doing something similar and taking six days off to drive up to Torch Lake, Michigan which will be almost an eight hour drive for us and are spending less than $1000 for five nights in a condo. We are planning a bigger trip for our one year anniversary.

Try going to a bridal expo. They always have giveaways or my fiancé and I have got super cheap cruises through sitting through timeshares lectures(just say no!). We found a good travel agency which we booked our honeymoon about a year in advance and they allowed us to pay it off a little bit at a time.

Thank you for all of the advice. We are currently looking at a 10k wedding budget and have a 2 year old so we can’t afford a big trip but you’ve all been very helpful.

I have never use Airbnb before. I signed up and got a coupon, and it is so affordable and is going to be a game changer for our honeymoon! More money for stuff to do. I found a house for $850 for two weeks! My tip would be to look outside the box. We’re not doing a cruise or an international trip. We’re going to Florida to Gainesville and we’re going to go to the museums and botanical gardens and going to explore the college town and hit the beach. I think it’ll be more fun and a cruise. But that’s just who we are, we like historical sites and roadside attractions and stuff like that.

You can always wait for your honeymoon too!!

For us, since we’re outdoor people, we’re doing a hiking trip with our pup the week after we get married (a mini-moon) then we’ll do a bigger trip the following summer. We’re getting married 11.21.2020 so I wanted to wait for the summer for our honeymoon.

I think driving down to a beach, mountain, town or city near you is the most affordable option. You can stay at a small hotel inn or bed and breakfast and just do tourist things around that place. It shouldn’t be that expensive.
