Honeymoon--now or Later? Where to go?

Cristy, on November 11, 2019 at 1:16 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13

Hi all,

We were planning to take a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon, right after the wedding. However, lately some life changes and financial pressures have us rethinking that idea. We're just not sure we can spend that kind of money, after paying for our wedding. We're talking about postponing the cruise until our 1-year anniversary.

Even so, we would like to do something immediately after our wedding. Neither one of us wants to go back to work on Monday after our Saturday wedding. So, we're looking at shorter, closer trips, or basically "stay-cation" ideas.

We live in California (SF Bay Area), so there is no shortage of beautiful places to visit. But we're hoping to 1) go someplace we haven't been before; OR 2) go someplace that screams "HONEYMOON" because it's so romantic or secluded, etc.

I'm looking for suggestions, recommendations, anything you have to say about your own honeymoon plans, as well as other ideas for any couple.

Where are you going? What are you doing? Honeymoon right after wedding, or some time later?

We're having our honeymoon right after the wedding! We're getting a cabin in Maggie Valley, NC and doing various activities in Asheville, MV, and Cherokee Smiley smile

Do your short, more local trip right after the wedding and then go all out for your one year anniversary cruise. Splurge for a nicer cabin, drink upgrades, etc.

We will be in Vegas 2 days before we get married and then we are going to the Grand Canyon for a few days after.

we are taking a family trip to Pigeon Forge, TN with our parents and our kids summer 2021.

We are doing our honeymoon about a month after the wedding. We are planning a trip up north to a local resort town and staying at their waterpark hotel. It has a bunch of restaurants and is a short drive to tourist things. We are only budgeting for a 4 day weekend. We are saving for a house so we don't want to take a long vacation from work especially since we are planning on taking off for a week for the wedding. We have a bunch of relatives coming in early.

We're doing our honeymoon about six weeks after our wedding. We chose that because both of the companies we work for will be shutdown for the holidays. We're doing an 11 night S. Caribbean cruise. It's more than we wanted to spend, but we also wanted the all out honeymoon. We splurged on a balcony room and plan to get the all inclusive drink package. With a cruise, if you plan to go during popular times (spring break, summer, holidays) you'll want to book early to get a better room. We ended up booking our December 2020 cruise in July 2019 because there were only three balcony rooms left.

We're doing our honeymoon right after the wedding, but we thought about doing something short and waiting to take a longer one due to FH's limited PTO. We decided just to do the honeymoon right after, though!

We're going to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos for 7 nights/8 days! We'll be doing several things on the water like snorkeling, a boat tour, etc. They have a Fish Fry every Thursday that's a huge thing there so I'm excited to go to it! There's, also, a nonprofit animal shelter that will let you take a Potcake Puppy out to the beach for a few hours so I'm super excited about that!

My fiancé is currently in the sheriffs academy so he isn’t allowed any time off at the moment so we are taking a trip when he graduates instead ! So that’s in 4 months we’ll probably make it a nice summer honeymoon instead Smiley smile! Nothing is wrong with taking a late honeymoon! You can always do a small weekend getaway the weekend after your wedding (like we plan to do)

We're going on our honeymoon about a week after the wedding! There's nothing wrong with doing a mini-moon first and then a larger one later Smiley smile

We’re going to Florida right after our wedding for our mini honeymoon. Then in April of 2020 we’re going to Hawaii for our bigger honeymoon.

Some friends went to Lake Tahoe. Idk if that's up your alley. But it was pretty.

We got married in August, but just booked our honeymoon for the end of January. We work arts and service jobs, so we needed the time.

    Take it when you want!

I live a few hours north of SF and if you want a little getaway after the wedding there are some fun places up here! The beautiful redwoods for exploring, some real nice dining and some beautiful wineries if you are into that! If you go a little north and bypass all of Napa the prices get a lot better and in my opinion a lot more relaxed! Maybe it doesn’t count if you have already explored this area but I like it! I think a stroll in a vineyard just the two of you or a little north in a cozy cabin is so romantic! No distractions! Good luck!

We are going right after the wedding. We are going to Las Vegas and then Breckenridge Colorado. If we don't go then...we won't go for a loooong time since we have so many commitments.
