Honeymoon is cancelled

Laura, on September 10, 2019 at 12:48 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 53

I'm so bummed! I just found out that the honeymoon we were planning is off. My FH's boss and wife had offered to pay for it, and we were floored and very appreciative. It wasn't a crazy week long honeymoon, just a couple of days here in Michigan at in a town called Frankenmuth. It's year-round Christmas town, Hallmark is actually filming one of their Christmas movies there.

Not sure why but his boss backed out. We know it's not a financial thing, he's a millionaire. He didn't have to offer in the first place, we didn't ask for it, in fact I was even researching the most affordable places there to not cost them an arm and a leg. His wife was mad at him for it.

So no honeymoon. We can't afford it. We can't even afford a room for the wedding night. We didn't have that in the budget once we though it was taken care of. I just wish he wouldn't have offered. So my wedding night will be spent in my dinky apartment Smiley sad

I'm so sorry. Obviously he isn't required to pay for your honeymoon, but I think it's really crappy that he said he was going to and backed out a month before your wedding. You could've been saving to pay for it yourselves if he hadn't said he was going to do that for you, I would be so mad.

We don't have the money to do that, not even for the wedding night. I was stunned when the boss had offered, I never expected it. I know he wasn't obligated to, if he was going to back out he could have at least been considerate enough to do a month ago so we could have been trying to figure something out. i'm mad, but more so because my fiancee is upset. He feels bad even though it's not his fault. He feels bad because he wanted to share the town with me because he loves it there. I guess I shouldn't have gotten excited about it.

That is SO weird they would offer then take it away, how uncomfortable for everyone. I'm so sorry!

Thank you. I feel worse for Rob, because he was so touched by the gesture when they offered, and for his boss to just do that hurt him. FH is a tough guy but he has a big heart

*hugs* what a bummer I'm sorry. Maybe you can ask someone in your wedding party to come in and decorate with some candles and flowers and stuff and maybe it won't feel too much like your "dinky apartment?" Order for uber eats for "room service" the next morning?

This is so disappointing. But if it were me, I’d light a bunch of candles, get a bottle of wine, write love letters to read and make it a special night.

That would be nice, but so far no on in our bridal party shows much interest in stuff..no bachelor pr bachelorette parties, no shower, nothing so I don't see that happening. The food idea would be nice, but I don't think we have it in our budget.

I'm really sorry; I remember how excited you were when you posted about your plans earlier.... I agree with W-K though to see if some friends would be willing to decorate your apartment to make it a little more special.... One of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from It's a Wonderful Life when Donna Reed's Mary makes the old run down house into a "tropical get-away" for their wedding night -- so sweet! Sending you hugs!

My honeymoon was cancelled too. It sucks but you can try to do a stay-cation maybe!

That could work if we didn't have his teenage son probably staying the night LOL he's 18, doesn't drive but we figured we had a place to go and he'd be ok here until someone came and got him the next day. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but this just wasn't how I thought the wedding night would go

He lives two hours away and doesn't have any here or that would work. I keep hoping someone will step up and at least take him home. FH's family doesn't do much for the kid though sadly...his mom is a psycho and no one wants to see her or deal with her so the kid misses out on a lot

Oh that really sucks Smiley sad Well there's uber eats, door dash, and skip the dishes. Sometimes their delivery fees are waved or pretty low. McDonald's breakfast in bed under $20 lol

That really stinks that his boss didn't come through for you guys. he definitely shouldn't have offered if he wasn't ready to follow through.

I understand that your bridal party hasn't been super helpful, but maybe you can ask one of your close friends or family to decorate your bedroom at least? I know you said you don't have much in your budget but maybe you guys can look into an airbnb or even a motel 6 or something so that you can be alone.

We didn’t have a choice either. Immigration rules have been constantly changing so when we got married a new decree was enacted and my husband would have been barred entry back into the US. Our lawyer advised us to cancel everything to avoid potential issues. Since we made the choice to cancel we lost about $1500 in deposits and plane tickets. It was devastating. We saved a small amount and took a little trip to NYC two months after we got married but it wasn’t the same and it was half a business trip for my husband so it wasn’t really romantic

I'm so sorry to hear this. If you can just push your honeymoon out a 2-3 months so you can save up if possible.

Same! I know your pain. On our wedding night we were back in our apartment with our 3 sons and then my sister dropped off my two nephews for a sleepover with my boys. So it turned into a playhouse.

We are hoping to find some time for just us soon.

It sucks that you were promised a honeymoon that was taken away.

Aw I’m sorry hun, Frankenmuth is a fun place. Would you be able to make a day trip out of it at least? I took my parents there for this first time this spring, we just window shopped and ate heart shaped beignets at the coffee house. It was about $8 for a whole afternoon of fun! Of course it depends if it’s a short enough distance for you.

How far do you live? Can you go for the day? It's a great place to visit but maybe go and have lunch, buy a wedding ornament at Bronner's and go back when you can Smiley smile
