Has anyone honeymooned/vacationed in Nassau, Bahamas? Any recommendations or places to avoid?

Is there a specific reason your picking Nassau ? I’m a travel agent who specializes in cruises and Nassau would not be an Island I would go and spend time is there a specific resort your looking at ? I think there is more islands that have better locations and things you can do .

I've been to Nassau twice from a cruise ship, and also spent about a week there at Atlantis with FH several years ago. We absolutely loved Atlantis. We actually stayed at the sister resort because it was a lot cheaper and had great specials. It's not as pretty and romantic, but you get the same access to Atlantis (private beach, water park, restaurants, etc), you just have to walk across the parking lot in the morning and grab a wristband. You can take boats over to the mainland, or if you're ambitions you can walk across the big bridge. The area the boats drop you off in is fairly touristy, but fun. There are also a bunch of great small local restaurants on the water under the bridge. We grabbed lunch there several days because it's different, cheap, and super fresh since the guys literally catch fish and bring it straight to the restaurants.

I am absolutely in LOVE with Atlantis! I went there about 5 years ago and it was the most amazing vacation I have ever had. The resort is beautiful! I highly recommend it!

I've been to Nassau 3 times. Twice on cruises and 1 time when I was staying at the Atlantis. Honestly, unless you are staying at the Atlantis, don't go to Nassau. It is dirty, people will annoy you to buy their baskets and hair braids, and there just is not a lot to do there. However, Atlantis is beautiful, has amazing food, and since it is a resort, there is a lot to do on the grounds.

We’re going to the Sandal’s and not planning to leave the resort. We wanted something all inclusive where we could just show up and stuff would be planned for us. Unlimited food and alcohol included.

Yes! We went last month and stayed at Baha Mar. it was lovely but SO expensive. Food and drinks are just absurd. It was doable though. We spent a week there and spent about 4k total... including food, drinks, activities, and hotel (but not including airfare.. we used miles for that). It was wonderful though... so many restaurants, tons of pools, gorgeous huge beach. There are definitely a lot of people around all the time but it never felt “crowded” because the resort is so freaking huge that it basically absorbed the crowd. Baha Mar is made up of 3 hotels... SLS (which is more of a party hotel... lots of big groups of people in their 20s... didn’t have a honeymoon vibe AT ALL), Grand Hyatt where we stayed was lovely, and then the Rosewood was absolutely AMAZING, beautiful, and romantic, but profoundly more expensive than the others. But you can use the pools and restaurants at all 3 hotels regardless of which one you’re staying at, since they’re all connected. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt but ended up spending a lot of our time at the Rosewood pools... they were much less crowded and quieter!

If we went back we probably would’ve stayed at Atlantis but not the Atlantis hotel. The only “downside” of Atlantis is its much more family friendly so there are a lot more kids around. But it seemed to us like there was a lot more to do there. And if we were to go back it would probably be after we have kids, so yeah lol. Atlantis area is gorgeous and so many fun things to do, but the Atlantis hotel itself is very crowded and full of kids. Maybe check out other hotels in the Atlantis area... we really liked the Cove. That’s probably where we’d stay if we went back.

Hotels in Atlantis are more expensive than Baha Mar, but we noticed all the food and amenities were less expensive in Atlantis than in Baha Mar. So financially it probably is about equal, just depends on which you like better. Or you could split your time between both areas. Smiley smile let me know if you have anymore specific questions because we were literally just there!

Oh and to add also, if you do go you shouldn’t like, try to explore the island or leave the resort. The only time we left the resort was to take a cab from Baha mar to Atlantis (one resort to another) and some day trips that we booked through the resort and they had boats take us there. But like, don’t wander the island outside of the resort or anything. We felt totally safe at both resorts, but apparently the island is not safe at all if you leave the resort areas. Also I read that you shouldn’t eat fruit from stands or anything... I really wouldn’t recommend eating or drinking outside the resort. Apparently there’s certain things in their produce that people who live there are basically immune to, but if you’re not a local it would upset your stomach.

Not to scare you or anything haha, because we had an amazing time and didn’t get mugged or sick or ever feel at risk of either of those things. But just make sure you stay on resort premises and don’t worry Smiley smile
