Hi community!
Husband and I booked a flight to London in early December and would like to take a trip to Italy as well! We're first time European travelers and although this is our "honeymoon" we're hoping its jam packed with fun and plans.
I think we're planning to spend ~2 days in London and ~4 days in Italy, so we're contemplating taking a day or two from our Rome area to head down to the coastal area for a night. Would love recommendations for the best way to get down there, and where to go. We've had Pompeii in mind for a long time. We'll be there for 6.5 full days (after travel time for flights removed) and trying to figure out the best way to split our time, in addition to most economical housing and travel options.
We're interested in seeing some of the sights, like Westminster Abbey the Colosseum, but would also love recommendations for great places to eat and pubs/bars to try, cute neighborhoods to stroll through.
We're not tourist-trap type travelers, so local-appreciated gems are sought after- unless there's a place with something that HAS to be experienced in London/Italy.
I was thinking Airbnb may be our best way to stay, since we're not planning to stay much in our hotels and want something on the safer side. Have you stayed in an airbnb in one of the places we're heading?
I think we'll likely fly between London and Rome to make the most of the time we have. How do you recommend us getting around in each country?
What's the best way to handle money in each place? Do you primarily use credit cards or do you need to have cash in a lot of places? (euros and pounds i believe). Any tips for safety?
I realize i've put a lot of questions in here- hubby is leaving a lot of the planning to me so i want to get it right! I appreciate any advice!
