Honeymoon in Hawaii- Any Suggestions?

Madelyn, on July 15, 2019 at 11:06 AM Posted in Honeymoon 1 13
Hello all!
My future husband and I have decided to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon (yay!!!)! We are planning on spending 5-6 days on Ohau and another 5-6 on Maui. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as excursions to plan and things to do? We already have our hotel for Ohau- so any hotel suggestions for Maui?
Thanks in advance!

Madelyn

    Hawaii is gorgeous.
I went to oahu - went to hanauma bay, Dole plantation, went kayaking to see sea turtles, etc.

I just returned from vacation in Hawaii. While in Maui, we stayed at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort. Loved it! Affordable, great service, and amazing views. There are also several pools there. It’s a beautiful property. We had a car and did the Road to Hana drive. It was a fun outing from the resort. Also had an amazing (albeit expensive) dinner at Mama’s Fish House but we all agreed it was worth it. We didn’t do much else there because we saved our excursions for Kauai. Have fun!

My in laws have a time share in kaanapali beach in Maui which is a GREAT location. Tons of restaurants, everything is super close together. Can’t complain in the slightest. But if I were to go back not using their timeshare, I may stay at Wailea beach. We went there for one day and it was just MAGICAL. I am not sure what the restaurants and things to do in that area are though.

We are going to Maui for 3 nights, and Oahu for 4! Next week! We are staying at Royal Lahaina in Maui, our hotel included a jeep rental car. In Maui, we are going to the Feast a Lele luau. In Oahu, we are doing two nights at the Four Season Ko Olina and two nights at Turtle Bay. We are doing a 1 hour ATV tour at Kualoa Ranch and a catamaran snuba tour at Ko Olina too!

We spent our honeymoon in Hawaii too! We did the Big Island instead of Maui (although I wish we did Maui!!) but we did do two weeks in Oahu! Some of our favorite activities were:

    - "hiking" to Waimea Falls — it's a paved, less than one mile path to a waterfall in a beautiful botanical gardens. There are many side pathways to take to make your trek more fun and more private, which I did and highly suggest!!

    - UTV tour at Kualoa Ranch. We loved this compared to the ATV tour because we were able to sit together. If you'd both like to drive, you can switch off at the photo stop.

    - Pineapple drinks at the bar on the beach at the Royal Hawaiian Smiley smile

    - Hiking Diamond Head and getting a Dole Whip at the end

We went to Maui a couple years ago and stayed in a condo I found on vrbo.com. It was cheaper than a hotel and was right on the beach. Definitely do the road to Hana (just make sure you start in the morning). We downloaded an app, I think it was called Maui tour guide or something super simple like that, but it would direct you all around the island and give you some history and where the good places to stop and eat or see things were. It worked off the gps on your phone.

    Hi Nina! Thanks for replying!

What kind of excursions did you do in Kauai? That was another island we’ve been thinking about going to instead of Maui!

Kauai was amazingly beautiful! We did get some rain as we stayed on the north side of the island but it worked out fine. We did zip lining and an ATV tour, both through Princeville Ranch (awesome people!). We also did a boat tour (included snorkeling) of the Na Pali coast which was great. Both islands were beautiful, but we really loved Kauai!

I highly suggest the Sheraton or Westin on Kaanapali beach! They're both amazing hotels (that entire beach is, really)! If you want to splurge on an amazing but expensive dinner, check out Mama's Fish House. If you're a sushi fan, Sansei is great and they have a couple of locations on the island.

I also highly recommend Trilogy day trips for an awesome snorkeling excursion!

The hotels in Kapalua Bay in Maui are more upscale, secluded, and romantic.
HIGHLY recommend doing the Road to Hana and seeing the sunset at the top of Haleakala crater! It's above the clouds and it truly remarkable. The road to Hana takes you on the backside of the volcano through the more rainforest like terrain. This is where the black and red sand beaches are. There are a ton of one lane bridges and switchbacks. If you are prone to car sickness or have any concern about that, just drive it yourself instead of a guided tour. That is what we did and then we could control when we wanted to stop and for how long. We got the Gypsy Guide app and it narrated where to go and told stories about the area and island along the way. The app is 7.99 and a bus tour is around $120 a person.
Mama's fish House is one of the highest rated restaurants in the U.S. You have to make a reservation way in advance, but if you can it is definitely worth it!
We also did surfing on one of the beaches as well as snorkling with sea turtles at Molokini. The pineapple plantation was fun and you can't go to Hawaii without doing a Luau!
If you ask locals what not to miss, they always say the Haleakla crater and Road to Hana.
Enjoy your honeymoon! You will love it.

That's so exciting, Madelyn! Will you go directly after your wedding or wait a couple of weeks?
