Honeymoon in Greece!

Kaitlyn, on November 20, 2019 at 12:21 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 8

Hello WW community!

My fiancé and I are planning to go to Greece for our honeymoon in July! Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for where to stay, places to eat and what to do?!

Thank you!

You have got to try any seafood you can get your hands on. Definitely visit Mykonos and then Athens to see the ruins. You won't want to come back!

Greece is amazing! I went with a friend a couple of years ago and loved it. If you like history and ruins, spend a few days in Athens (if beaches are more your scene though, you can get by with just a day here). For islands, we flew to Crete, took a ferry to Santorini, took another ferry to Naxos, and then ferried back to Athens. Book your ferries far in advance since they do get sold out during summer!

If you go to Crete, I might rent a car and try to see more of the island (it's huge). For Santorini, we stayed near Perissa Beach (and our airbnb was just steps away from the water) and were able to bus or walk everywhere we needed, but if you want to be more central you can try to stay in Oia or Fira. People will tell you that Santorini is crowded, expensive, and overrated - they're right about the first two but it's still one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I absolutely would not skip it! Naxos is a little quieter but is absolute stunning (more great ruins, beautiful little town, great beaches), and if you visit there I'd stay right in the main town since it isn't too pricey.

As far as other islands to consider, I've heard wonderful things about Mykonos and Paros. Everything affordable in Mykonos was sold out several months in advance so we weren't able to add it to our trip (I think we looked at lodging two months in advance for a late August/early September trip).

Honeymoon in Greece! 1Honeymoon in Greece! 2 Would highly recommend Lake Vouliagmeni (first pic), they had cliff diving competitions there several years ago and the island of Hydra (second picture), the beach wasn’t very crowded and it’s beautiful! Would also recommend trying Greek yogurt flavored gelato while there 😊 and in addition to Athens for history, Corinth has beautiful ruins/history and a bungee jump over the canal if you are adventurous!

My FH is Greek and his family came from Crete! He would love to go to Greece one day, however, I don't know if i could handle that long of a flight over open water.

This information is SO helpful! Thank you for taking the time to say all of it Smiley smile. We were definitely looking into Crete, Santorini and Mykonos. But it’s good to hear that Santorini isn’t overrated - it looks stunning! Naxos looks amazing too! We were between Naxos and Ios or Paros. Thanks again!
