Honeymoon - Help!

Kristina, on February 17, 2020 at 10:37 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

Hey ladies! So we are looking at planning a honeymoon. How many of you guys went through a travel agent or just booked everything yourself? We have talked to a few agents but i'm unsure about it all. I have heard some ladies say that they went through Costco Travel and did a package or what did you guys use that you recommend. Also, we are trying to not spend an arm and a leg but we want something nice like a mini vacation, any recommendations?

Thanks so much in advance! xoxo

We normally book our own vacations but decided to go with a travel agent. They get commissions from the resorts, so you don't typically pay anything for their services. It was helpful to have her when our flight got canceled as we were heading to the airport to the honeymoon. She was able to get us on a different flight that day and contact the resort/transportation company for us.

Awesome thanks for your advice! Did you have to make payments through your travel agent directly or did you have to pay the resort directly?

I planned everything for our honeymoon ourselves! We're going to Turks & Caicos for 7 nights/8 days. We got our flights almost free as I used credit card miles to book them. I found an oceanfront Airbnb on Providenciales for significantly less than the hotels in the area. We're not doing all-inclusive as a lot of people recommend not doing all-inclusive in TCI since the local food is so good. We will, also, be flying to Grand Turk one day to go snorkeling with humpback whales! I plan a lot of trips every year so I'm used to doing all the research to find the best deals.

We paid through the travel agent, as it was a package including resort, flight, and transportation.

What’d you guys do for previous trips? Plan it yourselves or book through agents? It’s just personal preference. I’m one of those always plan my own trips person. Others don’t want to and don’t like planning logistics of travel of figuring out itinerary. They view it as drudgery and work.

I planned everything for us because I've planned several international trips for myself in the past.

We normally book our own vacations so we didn't use a travel agent. We had specific places we wanted to stay and specific things we wanted to do so I just did all the research & booking myself, and it worked out great!

We did everything ourselves, since we were able to get much better rates by booking directly at the places we wanted. But we also made sure to buy good travel insurance just in case!

Where did you buy through was it like a site you could buy honeymoon packages or did you go directly through the resort and airline service?

We bought our tickets directly through American Airlines and booked the hotels we wanted directly through the hotels' websites. We did the first half of our honeymoon in a budget hotel and did lots of day trips and exploring, and spent the second half in a really nice hotel which included half board (included breakfast and dinner) and we spent that segment barely leaving the hotel! So it depends what you want out of your honeymoon. We knew we wanted to spend a full 10 days in Europe but not pay an arm and a leg, and booking everything ourselves allowed us to do that. We also knew that we wanted to spend half of our honeymoon out and about doing stuff and exploring, and the other half being super lazy and relaxing by the pool/spa. I should also mention that this advice depends where you want to go. If you want the Caribbean or South America, then oftentimes booking through travel agents will get you better rates. But if you want Europe, where all inclusive is very rare, then you'd be better off doing things on your own. But travel insurance is a must!

I have traveled a lot and never have I used a travel agent. I do hear sometimes they get you some discounts but I like booking things myself as part of the fun of planning

I always recommend cruises just because they are so economical and there's so much you can do. Smiley heart
