Honeymoon for under 2000?! IN THE U.S.

Rebekah, on March 30, 2016 at 10:36 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

We have a trip planned for Galveston for 4 nights at the San Luis resort for 4 nights. Just the hotel will be like 1500!! Only include breakfast. Any better ideas?! And no, he won't agree to Mexico. Like at all. HELP, I wanna get my money's worth!

There are cheaper hotels than that in the US. You can also look into cruises that stop multiple places, the USVI or Puerto Rico. Or Florida. Or the Keys. Vacations are affordable, you just have to look.

People are telling me we couldn't go to Florida for that price! But I feel like that's expensive for Galveston!

Go on Expedia and look at packages. Airfare + hotel for where you want to go. Sort by price, lowest to highest, then look at reviews.

My favorite deal was a cabana on a beach with Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and a full kitchen in Belize for $59/night. We also did a Royal Caribbean cruise, 7 nights, $350/pp. Both were fantastic vacations for very little $$$

Galveston can be expensive because it's a port city for cruises. Also it depends when you book (for example school vacations)

Are you from Texas? If not, I would strongly encourage you not to go to Galveston. You can do a honeymoon elsewhere in the US for that budget. If you want a TX beach, South Padre is the best way to go and then Corpus Christi. Galveston has the worst beaches in the state.

Look into FunJet or even look at a vacation rental, sometimes they are way less expensive but in a great location with more space.

Word of warning. Before booking make sure you can cancel and get money back if needed. I always think of plan for the unexpected. Also if either of you have AAA most hotels reduce your rate. To get the biggest bang for your buck book around touristy times where you go. Do research for the area and see the events going on. Major events tend to jack the prices up.

Don't go to Galveston or Corpus. Those beaches are nasty...dead fish floating around, horrible seaweed infested with bugs blocking the beaches, rotten fish smell, trash everywhere...just not worth it.

South Padre isn't bad though, from what I remember.

Try looking at Airbnb for places to stay though. If you can find a nice place with a full kitchen included then you can cut way down on food costs.

Definitely check out Air BnB. We did that for our honeymoon to Charleston and it was all under $2000, flights and lodging included.

Airbnb is a great idea! And personally I love Galveston! Yes , the beaches aren't world class, but it's such a charming town! FH proposed to me on Crystal Beach, on the Bolivar Peninsula (a free, quick ferry ride from the island) so I am majorly biased, but I think its beautiful!

eta picture. See, no seaweed or dead fish or anything!

I think you can visit Florida within that budget. Look into the west coast (Clearwater is a top beach destination) or pan handle (Destin is a top destination as well). Stay away from 4 star hotels to stay within budget or maybe look into VRBO for private property rentals.

Florida can be within that budget. Check out the keys, sanibel island, Clearwater even Fort Lauderdale. I've been using Expedia to search for our Florida honeymoon

We went to Boston for less than that. We were there for nearly a week.

What about Myrtle Beach? That can also be affordable.
