Honeymoon All Inclusives

Anonymous, on May 24, 2010 at 3:37 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

First off, I'm new to the boards, so hi everyone!

FH and I just booked our reception site yesterday (yay!), but it was more $ than we originally budgeted for - causing us to cut back in other areas. I'm starting to look into all inclusive resorts that are reasonably priced. Ideally we'd love to stay in a suite for a more private, exclusive feel. Any suggestions? I have looked at Sandals, but not sure what other places are out there. All ideas welcome!

Do you want to relax/be on a quiet island? have lots of activities to do? have different restaurants to choose from? AND, where do you want to go?

Sandals has LOTS of options at great prices so you guys need to decide what kind of HM you're looking for but you've got plenty of time for that.

We are going to an all inclusive in Riviera Maya called El Dorado Royale. We booked on www.resortcompete.com

You put where you want to go and different travel agents email you with different prices. The guy I went with was $1200 less than travel agents in NJ and then the price already dropped another $1200.

We are looking for something relaxing - definitely would like to lie on a beach and eat great food for a week-10 days as opposed to running around doing a bunch of activities (though FH would definitely play golf if the resort had a course).

This is all really helpful! Thanks for the responses! Definitely going to check out all the places and sites you listed (especially resortcompete.com - that is amazing!)

Oh, and forgot to mention that we don't have a specific geographical location in mind, as long as there's great beaches and food!

Palace Resorts - If you want all adult and romantic check out LeBlanc or Sun Palace. Have stayed with Palace numerous times and have always been satisfied. Service is outstanding!

As much as everyone would love a honeymoon suite for their honeymoon, you have to figure out how much time will actaully be spent in the room and if it's worth splurging on a super nice room. I think alot of people assume they'd be spending alot of time in their room Smiley winking, but actually they spend more time out and about exploring, being lazy on the beach, etc. So alot of time might and probably not be spent in the room, so go for a mediocre (sp?) room and all Sandals resorts don't allow kids, so that wont be an issue.. Smiley winking When we book our honeymoon I will check out how much extra is would cost for upgraded rooms and compare the rooms to wee which is the best deal. All Sandals rooms have a 4 poster king size bed, which FH siad we MUST have (we have double bed at home... :s) So what ever room we get, will have a king sized bed!

We are staying at an adult only AI near Playa Del Carmen in Mexico (a little less college / hustle bustle then Cancun). It's called Catalonia Royal Tulum.

The way I looked is by going to Apple Vacations, Bookit.com, and other travel sites and just looked at all the resorts that were labeled 'AI' and did research on reviews (Trip Advisor is a HUGE help).

    GOOD LUCK!

@MRW82584, I agree, Trip Advisor was a Tremendous help!!!

I like the AIR we chose, I'm so excited a/b the jacuzzi in our room, it overlooks the beach... Yay!!! I think most Palace resorts have that, so it may not be a huge suit, but the rooms are amazing!!

@Michelle628 how long does it usually take for them to get back with you on a quote, and how did resortcompete's prices compare to orbitz. (ive found orbitz has the best deal including fees for Couples Negril, which is where we plan to stay) Thanks!

@futureafu. It took around a day or so for my travel agent to get back to me with a quote. We tried Orbitz and everything and resortcompete was a lot better. And Orbitz didn't adjust the rate if the price dropped. We booked in September and we don't have to make final payment until June 19th. And so far since we booked the price dropped an additional $1200 so before we pay the last installment the travel agent is going to see if the price dropped anymore. The travel agent that I got the best deal from is Steven Nelson at Junction Travel. They are in VA (I live in NJ but booked with them) and the number is 703-368-8757

I've been to all-inclusive resorts that sucked and weren't as "all-inclusive" as they really claim...ex: limiting how many nights you can actually go to dinner, cheap crappy liquor, etc... But I can say the BEST all-inclusive I've ever been to for a fantastic price is the Excellence Riviera in Mexico. the US dollar goes so far down there and you will be absolutely pampered by the friendliest people. We can't wait to go back again!

@Jillian..I haven't stayed at that specific resort but Playa del Carmen is a really busy, touristy, shopping kinda area..I wasn't impressed with their beaches at all. If you are looking for that kind of buys place you'd like it. I prefer the Riviera Maya area a little north for nicer beaches and quieter locations.

@Laura - Thank you, that's super helpful! We are looking for something somewhat quiet and we're a little bit worried about overcrowding.

We had luck with apple vacations 5 square deal- basically you just have to be open to not knowing where you are staying until the day of- it is a great way to save money and get a nice all-inclusive resort. We did it for the dominican republic and told them it was our honeymoon (even though we weren't engaged yet) and we ended up being placed at Dreams resort in La Romana. It was an amazing resort and such a great deal! It was about $860/person with airfare and tax for 7 nights!

We're going to the Palace resort in Cozumel. FH's dad has stayed at 2 palace resorts in different locations and says that they are an amazing resort. The pics of the place look amazing and even the lower level rooms (i.e. not suites) have a jacuzzi tub, sitting area, and most have a private balcony with a hammock (some of the rooms are city view). I'm excited for it as I have never been to an all inclusive resort so I imagine it's going to be a pretty awesome experience.

@Jillian-dig around on the resort's websites a little and you should be able to find how many rooms they have total. This will give you an idea of how crowded or busy it might be. We were originally considering the palace's newest resort in punta cana but after seeing that it had over 1,000 rooms we started looking at different locations. The cozumel resort has around 170 which we prefer much more than the large number. Yes, the resort will be somewhat smaller than the other, but it's still probably a noticable difference. If you can't find the info on the websites don't be afraid to give them a call!
