Holiday with Family Question

How does everyone split their holidays between your family and your in-laws? I've heard spending holidays separately is a thing also... Just want to get your thoughts on how everyone can divide fairly. Thanks in advance!

For 8 years we did Thanksgiving and Christmas separately (and we loved it!)

Last year his grandparents moved their Thanksgiving to friday so we did mine thursday and theirs friday. This year they said they weren't cooking at all.

So we did my thanksgiving thursday together and then he went by himself friday to help his grandparents on their property (doing some stuff on the tractor, etc). I didn't go because there was nothing for me to help with and I don't like to just sit in his grandparents house for hours.

We always do Christmas Eve at our house with our group of friends.

Christmas day we go our separate ways.

I would like to keep doing holidays separately until we have kids, then we will probably host the holiday and whoever can make it is welcome. His family is spread out over the state and mine all lives within 10 mins of us.
