hiking boots with dress at wedding: bad idea?

Merritt, on March 7, 2016 at 6:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello, Needed some fashion input... Smiley smile

We are eloping in a national park. Our ceremony will be outside on a lakeshore, cold (snow), and require a moderate hike (5 miles). We are dressing up: He is wearing a nice suit, and I am wearing a bridesmaid dress.

Should we bring regular shoes that you would typically wear to put on at the actual ceremony for photos, etc., or should we just wear hiking boots the whole time? If boots - cute, or practical, or what type?

I have zero sense about what looks good when I can't SEE it, so planning this before my dress is finished and able to go with me to try on boots is difficult. Smiley smile

All suggestions appreciated.

This is my dress, just in pale pink not blue: http://www.jlmcouture.com/Hayley-Paige-Occasions/Bridesmaid/Fall/2015/Style-5566#TB_inline?height=550&width=840&inlineId=hidden_modal_popup__x2&modal=true

I would use this as an opportunity to get a practical warm boot that you also find cute. I have these and they would be warm enough to hike in the snow in:

With your dress I might wear these: http://smile.amazon.com/Merrell-Womens-Fluorecein-Waterproof-Winter/dp/B00R4UWO3A/ref=sr_1_20?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1457395284&sr=1-20&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=white+hiking+boots

You usually don't see your shoes. I think its entirely up to you Smiley smile

If there is a chance that some of the photos you want will show your shoes, then yes, bring a nicer pair.

Honestly? Some of my FAVORITE wedding pictures are of brides in bright yellow or pink rainboots. I think it would be cute. It seems like you're having a casual ish feel, so I don't think it would look silly, just fun. But if you want some really formal portraits, bring another pair for that but spend the evening hiking and dancing in your boots.

There are some really cute snow boots or Sorels. Sorels have great traction, but might be toasty for hiking in. Where are you getting married??

I have no idea how these would do hiking but they look cute and functional

How romantic! Mind saying which national park you chose?

I've seen a lot of photos of brides in boots on Pinterest, but I don't think I've seen true hiking boots. I like the ones @Beka posted. If it's just the two of you and there's no indoor reception, I don't see the point in bringing along another pair of shoes for the wedding dress, unless you want to continue wearing it indoors after the ceremony.

    Hey guys,

Thank you! I knew we would be wearing boots for the hike, and just didn't know if it was my lack of fashion sense telling me I could keep wearing them or not Smiley tongue I like all of those boots yall posted, appreciate the links! Once I see my dress with the capelet I purchased + his suit I'll be able to pick a boot based on color.

Also love rain boots look - with some warm socks that is another great option. And an excuse for me to buy some Hunter boots, too.... Smiley smile

We are going to Glacier NP.

    Thank you guys!
