Hidradenitis suppurativa - my skin is exploding and I hate everything

Del, on January 30, 2017 at 8:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I suffer from hidradenitis suppurativa. It's an autoimmune linked condition that causes painful scarring boils to form on my torso and upper arms/legs. For the last eight years, I've had this well under control with a carefully calibrated and monitored medical program. It never went away, and never will, but it was manageable.

Now, something is happening, and it's out of control. I'm getting 3-4 new bleeding lesions a day now, and they're climbing higher and higher up my chest. They're also much deeper and connected by subdermal tunneling.

I know this is not a huge deal compared to my overall health, but when I bought my dress my skin looked okay. If this is coming back and spreading higher, my dress isn't going to work - it's a low-backed strapless gown. I know how long it can take to find the right treatment, and how long-lasting these scars can be, and I'm freaking..

I just wanted to look pretty on my wedding day. Ugh.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the stress you are going through regarding this. I've done a lot of reading regarding other autoimmune conditions. Have you looked into a dietary control like a Paleo diet? A lot of processed foods and wheat can cause a lot of issues.

Try not to stress (easier said than done, especially when it's a painful condition I know!) as stress always makes things worse. Keep in mind your FS is marrying you and fell in love with you. You will look beautiful on your wedding day! If you love your dress and feel beautiful in it, then rock it!! If you feel more comfortable having a back up dress, then plan for it.

I think you should rock the dress you have!!

I'm so sorry you are suffering from this, I have a very sweet guy that frequently comes to my hospital that also suffers from this. Please keep yourself healthy. I have no doubt that you will be beautiful on your wedding day. Keep praying and I will also be praying for your recovery.

Hello OP, I too have this condition. I've had 7 surgeries on my left armpit as the tunneling was so extensive. It's been 3 years since I've had a flare up. What I find is that controlling my stress and having a clean diet, helps to limit them. I know it sucks to have scarring, but you WILL be beautiful on your big day!

So every single person carries a strain of staph and I happen to carry a very rare one. It causes me to break out on my legs and I often get boils that leave ugly scars. I used bodymerry's stretch marks and scars cream for about 3 months leading up the wedding and the scars faded drastically. I highly recommend using that as long as you aren't allergic and don't have a reaction. Or there's miderma which I like as well.

This sounds so painful, I'm sorry you have to go through this. Good luck though and see if your doctor has any new solutions.

My aunt has the same condition. She was miserable for years until she cut out gluten and processed sugars. I would highly recommend changing your diet for a month and seeing if that helps.

Thank you so much, everyone. I really appreciate the kind words. And thanks for the suggestions. I've had some changes in diet lately since I get free meals at work, but maybe they could be causing a flare-up? I'll talk to my doctor and see. And I will definitely try that cream @Sasswood.

Thank you again! I hate this, but it helps to talk about it sometimes.
