I knew that I wanted a summer wedding (I'm a teacher and I didn't want to deal with a wedding during the school year) and a long engagement (we got engaged last July). I also know that June in California can be very June-gloom and late July/August can be very warm, so early July was it. I knew I wanted a Saturday so that left two options for July 2020. The first Saturday is July 4th, and we didn't want a holiday wedding, so July 11 was the date. I also really liked the ring of 7/11/20. Knowing we were having a longer engagement, I wasn't worried about a venue not having our date open (none of the 9 venues we looked at were booked yet). You said you like fall but your fiance likes winter? What about splitting the difference and doing a late November/early December wedding? You may get the best of both worlds in regard to weather.

I agree with most of the PPs. Figure out what you are looking for photo wise (seasonal colors and such) then think about your budget and how long it will take you to save that amount. FH and I got engaged in August of 2018, Fall is my favorite time of the year and I knew I wanted cooler weather and beautiful changing leaves. Obviously planning a wedding in 2 months was not realistic so we opted for the following fall. We decided TN in October would be exactly what we were looking for. I loved the 6th for a date and that was our plan originally but when we booked our venue someone had that date and I loved our venue so we just switched the date a week which honestly didn't bother me because I wasn't set on a specific date but rather the time of year.

I'm not sure where you are, but if you like the fall and he likes the winter, could you do November? In the south, it can still be warm in the beginning of November. We initially wanted to get married in the fall so we were looking at October and November this year (September is still really hot in Tennessee). Keep in mind that fall dates fill up super quickly! I started reaching out to venues last fall for this fall, and most places didn't have any Saturday's available so we were going to get married on a Sunday. We pushed our date back to February because we saw that Leap Day is next year and is on a Saturday!! We loved the thought of getting married on a unique date and plan to take a big vacation each time we have a "real" anniversary.

We picked a month that would work with our budget. We also wanted to pick a time around when our lease ended because we are gonna try and buy a home after the wedding. We might stay with the in-laws for a bit to save money.

Then we went to venues and when we found the one we booked we went off of the dates they had available. We ended up with the 30th because we wanted a Saturday.

We decided on a season and when we found a venue we liked, we saw what their availability was and where it lined up with our schedules.

I have always wanted a fall wedding so I knew it would be in November and most of the women in my family are teachers so I went with the weekend before Thanksgiving that way everyone would be on Thanksgiving break from school, and able to attend the wedding.

FH actually wanted in December around christmas and the New year but I feel like people would rather be with their families then attend a wedding then and here it snows a lot during that time, I also thought about November but the same thing because of the holiday no one would attend

We discussed what season we wanted to get married.
    I settled on Late June-November.
My fiance settled on May-Early June.
    We looked at the calendar.
I picked dates I liked the numbers of.
    We settled on 4/4/2020.
I contacted our photographer we wanted.
She had 3/21 and 3/28 available.
And now my fall wedding is in March.

We picked our date because it is our current anniversary date. We've been together 7 years and didn't want to celebrate two dates or forget the current one. We will get married on our 8th anniversary.

Could you do it closer to the beginning of December? Christmas / New years flights will be crazy high so if you have any OOT guest you'd need to keep that in mind, also if it snows a lot they would have to worry about flight delay.

We have decided on November now to find a venue and an official day we are hoping for 21st or 20th it’s two weeks before the holidays so it will not mess up any plans

Exactly this. We knew summer would work best for our schedules, and we wanted a Saturday evening.

We originally wanted something in September but then another couple (who had my bridesmaid in her wedding) picked a date in September so we started looking at August and one of the venues actually suggested 8/8/2020 and mentioned about 8 being the infinity symbol and blah blah blah so we went with that date lol. Also it’s super easy to remember for a couple who had to make up an anniversary date because we couldn’t remember the actual date. 😂

We picked our date (the month) based on when my FH would be done with a project since it has him out of town all week. He was big on not having the wedding/honeymoon and then leaving again for weeks on end. As for the specific date, once we found the venue we checked to see what they had available.
