Help! Wording on Invitation

Jenni, on September 29, 2019 at 2:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hey everyone, my wedding is in December so my mom had a wonderful idea about asking our guests to bring an ornament to the wedding that represents them that they can give to us. However, I am unsure of how to word this on an invitation. I'm limited in the space of words on the invitations ince I'm using Minted's All in One invitation. What should I do?

OMG, this is such a sweet idea! I love this! Maybe it's an extra piece of paper in the invite asking them to do this if they wish? "Please bring a tree ornament to decorate the reception tree with at the wedding." Or something like that! This is so fun! Hope it works out!

This sounds so cute. It would look good on a separate little sheet that you include with your invitation. "Please bring a special ornament as a gift to add to our Christmas tree"

Maybe a modified version of this. On a slip of paper cuz these are way to big for the invites you talking about

I would definitely add it on a separate piece of paper! I’m not familiar with the all in one but if you get a details card you can put it on there!

I think this is a sweet idea, but as with anything else, gifts should never be mentioned on wedding invitations. I would put it on your wedding website. If someone offers to host a shower for you, a better idea would be to use the shower for the ornaments. That way you don’t have to worry about transporting however many fragile ornaments along with the rest of your wedding stuff.

That's so exciting! Such a beautiful idea! You can definitely add like another small little piece of stationary (kind of like a thank you/accommodations type card) and write whatever you need to. You can even write it in a cute little poem.

"We came up with a bright idea for the invitee
To bring an ornament for our Christmas tree
One with a hook or even one we can tie
To keep forever to remember you by"

I literally just made that up so you don't HAVE to use it but if you like it you can. You can even use it as a template and change it up if you want, if you go the poem route. Either way, I'm super excited for you and I hope it all works out!

It's really not appropriate to ask your guests for presents, and it's never appropriate to mention presents in wedding invitations anyway. If someone offers to host a shower for you you can request an ornament shower, but otherwise I'd strongly suggest you not do it.

It's not okay to ask for presents, particularly not when you're asking in bad verse.

I agree with this - I really find asking for or talking about gifts on an invitation or anywhere else to be tacky. And I really do not like being told what to buy. Please rethink this.
