Help with table assignments

frommstoprys, on May 21, 2019 at 8:48 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Help! I want to do assigned tables, but guests can pick their own seat within that table. Basically what I was thinking was displaying name cards at a long table with little chalkboard signs (table 1, table 2, etc.) and put the name cards by the corresponding table the guest should sit at, and gusts can go to their table and pick where they want to sit.
My fiancée didn’t like this idea because if a single person puts their stuff down at a table it might disrupt the flow of the table if they have to ask them to move over a seat. (We won’t have that many single people at any given table).

What do you think? What is the best way to display seating arrangements? I don’t like the idea of just leaving name cards on tables and telling people to just walk around and find theirs...

thanks!

If you do escort cards definitely put them in alphabetical order because that will be the easiest way for guests to find their names. We did assigned tables as did most weddings I’ve attended. If someone needs one person to move over it’s not that big of a deal.

Yeah I agree with Kelly. Put name and table number on the escort cards and put them in alphabetical order

The only other option would be to assign people specific seats at each table and place a card for each person at their seat, but then they would have to go to each table to find their name. I agree with the others that you should have escort cards and put them in alphabetical order and if a person has to move over it is no big deal.

I’ve never been to a wedding where tables were not assigned. I’m sure your guests understand that others will be sitting with them and being asked to move one seat over will not be a burden at all.

Same. This is actually pretty standard - escort cards assign tables, not seats. And having to swap seats between table mates is a LOT easier than having to swap tables to fit a family of 5 at a table that only as 3 seats available lol.

But yes, definitely do some kind of escort cards and place them in alphabetical order. Again, that's a fairly standard and familiar practice Smiley smile
