Help with determining guest attire

on June 25, 2020 at 9:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hey everyone!
I’ve been having a hard time deciding on an attire wedding guest should wear. I asked FH and he said tell them wear their Sunday best and I started cracking up telling him that’s not one of the attire options lol. But we are getting married at a banquet hall we have the choice of using the indoor chapel or outdoor garden for the ceremony and reception and cocktail hour will be held in a lovely banquet hall. Our wedding starts at 5:30-11:30 so we know casual is off the table. Bridesmaids have long chiffon or tulle dresses from Birdy grey. And we are contemplating doing tuxes for the groomsmen. The dress I want is a simple yet elegant mermaid sweetheart neckline with a tulle skirt. We just want something fitting of the atmosphere and what we will be wearing. FH wants guests to be comfortable enough to dance in their clothes. I can’t decide between semi formal, cocktail attire, formal/black tie optional.

Thoughts?
Thanks!!

We had the same problem. We wanted our guests to be comfortable but still look nice. We went with dress casual/cocktail attire for our guests.

I would say semi formal or cocktail attire. I feel those options are pretty wide as far as being able to choose clothes that you can still be comfortable in without looking TOO comfortable.

It sounds like semi formal or cocktail would fit in with your description.

I would say either semi formal or cocktail attire based on what you've described.

Black tie optional isn’t a thing. Your description sounds like cocktail attire.

Cocktail is usually the best way to go. Its lingo that everyone will understand and sounds like the look you’re going for.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions I think we will do cocktail hour. I’ll just browse through some outfit ideas of cocktail attire so I can give a description of it on the wedding website.
    Thanks 😊

Black tie optional or black tie to me is a formal wedding for sure. I've heard of black tie optional (our wedding was semi-formal/cocktail attire) but to me that says nicer things like valet, band, full open bar, plated several course meal, etc. We went with semi-formal! Everyone was dressed really nice but not super super fancy.
